Hi @IvanF,
it seems that it's only possible to get the activities matched & grouped automatically - based on Strava's algorithms, not manually. At least that's how I understand the available documentation: https://support.strava.com/hc/en-us/articles/216919497-Group-Activities
As for the manual adding/invitation, it appears it's only intended for users who were not recording - it creates a new activity for them (rather than matching an existing one).
Anyway, it sounds like your use case could be something that also other Strava athletes could benefit from - you might want to submit it as an idea (feature request), and hopefully Strava implements it at some point.
Hi @Jana_S,
Many thanks for your response - very clear and thorough.
Yes, that “Add Others” function is as you say - only intended for users that did not record and creates a new activity for them.
I think it would be good if Strava puts a prompt to make the user re-confirm intent if he/she presses the “Leave Group” button as there is no function to undo and rejoin a group auto-formed by the Strava algorithm due to accidental presses.
Submitting the above as an idea (feature request) is a great idea. I’ll lodge it now.
Regards,
Ivan
Actually, I may have discovered something to help us all, after experimenting around a bit. Here's what you need to do on the website:
1.) Delete the activity. (Click the "ooo" symbol, click delete, and confirm.)
2. ) Restore the activity. (Click "training" --> "my activities" ---> "recently deleted". Then on the far right of that line, click restore.
I've done that with my activities a few times, so I know it's safe and it works. You will lose your kudos and comments for the activity, and any custom title you gave it. But your group participants will be back. In other words it will look just like it did when you just completed the activity!
Hi @JBW-Florida,
Many thanks for your feedback and proposed solution. Very clear and thorough as always!
Yes, I actually did think before about deleting and re-uploading my activity like you say. But doing so would lose all my existing kudos and comments (cheesy first world problems in the grand scheme of things, right? 😅)
Hello @JBW-Florida & @Jana_S,
Just thought I’d update and say that Strava Support had resolved my request a few hours ago.
They successfully added me back into the Group Activity that I left.
It took them about 2 weeks to circle back to fixing my request - perfectly normal and reasonably quick I’d say considering their workload and other support priorities on much bigger matters.
So all sorted, I’m a very happy man 🙂 (many thanks again to Skippy from Strava Support for sorting me out)!
But yes - still good to have a feature to rebuild / join back into Group Activity as per @JBW-Florida’s recent Strava Feature Request so users are not dependant on Strava Support for this function.
Thanks again to the both of you for your very thoughtful and thorough responses and comments, lodging Strava feature requests and so forth. Greatly appreciated!
All the best in all that you do!
Regards,
Ivan
