As we know Strava activity distances can vary from the proprietary data, this is not a major issue. But, does anyone know why activity start times can vary by ±10 seconds? This seems to be most prevalent on swims and virtual activities but can differ on runs too.

Hey @connectMyClub,

This is more likely due to GPS or your Strava account’s timezone.
We use your account's timezone to determine start time for activities that do not contain GPS information (indoor, workouts, swims, etc.).

More information on this situation can be found on our support article here.

Thanks @Bryant

This makes more sense now. We’ll have to think of a different way to ignore Strava data if the user’s Garmin activity is already in our database.

Thanks for the explanation.
