Hi team,

I wanted to float an idea that feels genuinely exciting and very “Strava”.

Could we consider adding Litter Picking as an official activity type?

At the moment, anyone doing a clean-up logs it as a walk or hike. But litter picking is its own thing. It’s movement with purpose. It’s time on your feet, miles covered, calories burned — but also bags collected, streets improved, parks restored.

There’s a real grassroots movement happening here in the UK and beyond. Community clean-ups are growing fast. People are organising via WhatsApp groups, local clubs, schools, running crews. It already overlaps heavily with the Strava demographic.

If this became an official activity, it could unlock some powerful dynamics:

  • Dedicated leaderboards for litter picking

  • Club competitions

  • Monthly “most impact” challenges

  • Streaks for weekly clean-ups

  • Heatmaps showing cleaned areas

Strava has always shown that visibility drives behaviour. When something shows up in the feed and has kudos attached to it, participation increases. Formalising this would amplify something genuinely positive.

There’s also a significant commercial opportunity here. Brands are actively looking for credible environmental initiatives that go beyond surface-level CSR. A sponsored global clean-up challenge or city leaderboard feels like something outdoor brands, retailers or sustainability-focused partners would want to get behind.

Most importantly, it aligns with where sport and community are heading. Increasingly, people want purpose alongside performance. Litter picking lowers the barrier to entry while still encouraging movement, community and accountability.

This feels like a small product addition that could have outsized cultural impact.

Would love for it to be considered.

Thanks for reading.
