I just completed my first half marathon yesterday and had my Strava running and the RaceJoy app for tracking my bib. Strava had me at a full mile longer than my bib tracked. It was a certified course as a Boston Qualfier (which is not me lol) so the course had to be accurate. Any ideas why my Strava was so far off and how to fix those stats? I don’t want a 14.17 mile run in there. Thanks!
I think it’s safe to assume any results on Strava are “good enough” for most purposes. If you are seriously competing then use the official stats collected by the organizer as they will have measured the course and the gates are the same for everyone. The accuracy of tracking a tiny object from 12,000 miles in orbit is amazing but doesn’t come without caveats. As such you could run the same course twice, or you and a friend together, and get slightly different results each time. Zoom way in and see if there are wide turns, zig-zags, or other GPS noise. That’s your extra distance.
You could try “correct distance” from Strava web or add your official results in the description.
