The past couple of days I have been unable to create routes in Strava. It’s very strange because I have had no issues in the past. The process of creating a route starts okay, but then as points around 50km, I get the following error message...

“Error: Sorry, we couldn’t complete that action. Please try plotting the point again. This can occur when routing across large distances, so try plotting more frequent waypoints that are closer together.”

I follow the direction in the error message and it doesn’t help. If I cancel out of the route in progress, and start over again, I get the same error message almost at the beginning of mapping out a route.

This is very frustrating! Has anyone else had this issue lately? Have you been able to resolve it? If so, how?

Same problem here. No solution.

same so fucking annoying

Thank you @Jack Yip and @Locus177 for sharing. At least I know I am not alone in my experience. I suspected something was up with Strava because I tried creating routes on both the Google Chrome and MS Edge browser platforms (both of which are up-to-date with latest version) and both browsers have the same problem. In addition, I have been creating routes on Strava for several years and have had no problems. I have opened a trouble ticket with Strava. Have either of you opened a trouble ticket? Last question, how long has this been going on for you?

Same here, makes you wonder what they do with our subscriptions. Something that worked just fine for years and they obvioisly tweak things to ‘improve it’ without proper testing (again) and hey ho...

To answer your question, when it started. For me it was last week sometime, seemed to be doing it then. Eventually route builder became unavaialble with their comedic screen ‘This one stays red’. Checked the Strava status which said they were working on it, so it is probably since then i.e. not completely fixed properly.

Hi, this looks like a widespread issue, let's try to keep everything in one thread - here's an existing discussion, I’ve asked the moderators to review and to bring it up with the engineering team:

Thanks @Fbelly for sharing your experience. Thank you, @Jana_S for escalating this matter. For a feature that is so fundamental and basic to Strava’s platform, one would think this sort of thing either wouldn’t happen in the first place or would receive more widespread communication about the issue and what is being done to resolve it. Thank you for your efforts to get this resolved.

Same problem here.

Looks like too tight rate limit:
