Hi everyone,

I'm trying to share an activity overview, but the link sends me to a strava login/registration page.

There's also this message: "This activity cannot be found. It has been deleted or is private".

I checked my privacy settings: activities are for everyone and Flyby, too.

The map is not hidden.

When I try to share the map instead of flyover, I get this message: "Impossible to find the requested activity".

What's wrong?

Thanks for helping.

Hey @Jana_S,

Thank you for tagging me.
I can confirm that you are correct.

An account is private (like yours), the flyover can only be viewed by Strava users that are logged in, no matter whether they're following you. For open accounts (like mine), anyone can see the flyover.”

The feature is working as expected.

Hi @Anankee,

I see you posted this a while ago. In the meantime, Strava has done some tweaking on this relatively new feature, and has released some fixes. Is it still happening?

If it is - would you please have a link to a sample activity where this happens? Also - are all activities impacted or just some specific ones?

Thanks!

Hi @Jana_S,

Thank you for the answer.

I tried with 2 activities (cycling and running, so all activities seem to be impacted): same result. I arrive on the same page described in my first post, on two different smartphones and also on a browser in private mode.

Here is a link tested:https://strava.app.link/RK2oG0auUSb

strava version : 408.10 (12391975)

Since my message, I've just changed my privacy preferences: activities = followers and flyby=everyone

I believe that the flyby privacy settings won't matter, that's a different feature (despite named similarly).

What does seem to be an issue though is the privacy settings of the actual activity. If it's not public (in your case it's set to followers only), the link probably cannot work - as the activity viewing has specific viewing permissions.

To confirm, could you please try setting a sample activity to Public and try again? Thanks!

In my first post, all my activities were in everybody. I specifically put this one back in public, create new share with https://strava.app.link/48Q0L6VvWSb  but nothing changed,

the map visiblity is not hide (just start and end points)

profile, activities and groups are on followers

flyby, local and mentions are on everyone

And you, can you share an activity? Maybe you don't have this problem and, if so, I could set the same privacy preferences as you to check?

I can see your flyover now (from this last link). 🙂

My profile is open to everyone and so are the activities. Here’s a sample activity:

flyover [link corrected] - https://strava.app.link/xa22lojnXSb

It's really weird that you can access it while on my side, in a private tab, it doesn't work for my link, but yours is ok!

Have you tried from a private tab to be sure that you are not connected to your Strava account ?

I'm going to open a request to Strava support because I'm stuck!

Thx for replies 😊

Okay that's really interesting - you're right, I could see it because I was logged in (I can open it within my login session but not in an anonymous mode), but I’m not your follower. So the privacy shouldn't be an issue… but it apparently is! I’m confused now 😀

I suspect that if an account is private (like yours), the flyover can only be viewed by Strava users that are logged in, no matter whether they're following you. For open accounts (like mine), anyone can see the flyover. But I really don't know whether this is intended or if it's a bug... 🤔

@Bryant help please 🙂 do you either know or could you please confirm with the product team whether it's supposed to work like that?

Get on!  Working as expected!    Why not change the error message to say:

This flyover can only be viewed by first singing onto your Strava account.

The error message now is totally misleading and unhelpful.

Hey @JBW-Florida,

This is a great point!

That error message would make things more clear.
I’ll be sure to relay this message.

Thank you all for these answers.

After reading them, I did some tests again:

  • in my first message, my account was open: I had mentioned that “I checked my privacy settings: activities are for everyone and Flyby, too.” I already had this error message so flyover cannot be shared.
  • Then I put all my activities in “followers only” but for the purposes of the test with @Jana_S, I put an activity in “everyone”, the one I shared. Apparently, this is not enough.
  • For the activity or the flyover to be shared, the account must be in “open”: but what control? “profile page”, activities, both or just activities ? I passed the privacy check “activities = everyone” leaving “profile page = followers”
I recreated a link https://strava.app.link/9qkGk5bi4Sb: still the error
  • I passed the privacy check “profile page = everyone” (and “activities = everyone”), recreated a link: https://strava.app.link/UbsO2bpi4Sb ... and finally sharing works !

In short, it is not at all understandable that you have to completely open your account to share an activity !? Why “profile page” and not just “activities” ?

What I want to share is an activity, not my entire profile…! The activity itself (its own control), should be enough or at least “activities” in privacy control, and so, not “page control”.

That’s a pity..

Thank you anyway for your help 👍🙂!
