Is this just me or has the iOS app started eating much more mobile data lately?

Last month, I've noticed an unusually high amount of mobile data used by Strava. I thought it might have been because I've uploaded a video to one of my activities while being on cellular data. Anyway, I thought I'd keep an eye on this; with a new billing month, I usually reset the mobile data stats, so I've done that: and after 2 weeks, I can see that Strava is the #1 on the mobile data eaters list again, with 1.59 GB. 😳

I haven't really changed the way how I use the mobile app. I do not use it to track my runs/walks in the real time (I record those with the AW native workout app and import afterwards). I'd sometimes use the maps during an activity to get directions, or scroll through the timeline to deal some kudos when traveling, and upload my activities (typically, when I finish a run, I'd do the upload while stretching yet outside / on mobile data). But that's it. Several GB of data seems a LOT for this kind of usage.

Has anyone else observed the same? (I'm adding a "bug report" label as it's certainly not a desirable behavior.)

Hey @Jana_S
Thanks for your post and sorry to hear about that! Please go ahead and delete the Strava application from your phone. Power your device off for 10 seconds, turn your phone back on and reinstall the Strava application. You will not lose any data if you do this since all data is stored on the Strava servers. If this doesn't resolve your issue, please submit a support ticket and our support team can further investigate.

Hi @Scout, thank you - after submitting this post, I've noticed that trying the beta version via testflight became available. I've installed that (which effectively removed the regular version, so it's similar to the process you've recommended) and so far, it seems much better - same usage of the app now requires less than half of the cellular data per week. So it looks like it was just some glitch - I'm glad it's not a feature 😀

Thanks again for your help! 👍

Dear Scout,

I have the same problem like Jana_S, but on Android and I have lost 4,21 GB on one SIM and 1,08 GB on the otber SIM . I am happy to see that your suggestion solved the problem by Jana_S, but I can not find the explantion about the reason of this bug. It would be good to know what kind of datas were generated this big transfer.

Thank you for yor answer in advance.

Regards,

Andras
