A(n ugly) workaround is to install the app in a Private Space. Such a thing is available on Pixel phones running Android 15 and later.

I can confirm that this solution works and we will have to make do with it until an update comes out that fixes the core of the problem.

Same issue here on the Google Pixel 9, considering ending my subscription if this issue has been going on for 3 months and still not even an update from Strava!

I have marked this as the best answer with so far three confirmations that it works, even though it’s a workaround instead of a solution. It’s still not clear if this is Strava caused problem as the workarounds hint that some system or third party processes on these Pixel models meddle with internal Strava data.

Tried this on a run today and it sadly doesn't work very well. The app doesn't crash, but with the app running in a private space recording stops every time the phone is locked or screen times out. There may be a way around that, but it wasn't immediately obvious.

For me the automatically updated official update of 8th Dec has fixed it. Same phone. Kept crashing for a month, now works surprisingly.

I didn’t see anything specific in the Pixel update notes but the problem was resolved for me installing Strava immediately after the update

I noticed a new update was available for the app and once installed, the issue seems to be resolved.  It's about time but it's pretty unprofessional to not have received any type of response from Strava on my open ticket related to this issue.

I am still going to cancel my subscription at the end of the current term. Strava has lost the plot in my opinion.
