Hello community,

I have been having a media error when trying to upload photos to my strava activity. It has been over a month now and I’ve tried multiple different combinations: upload photos on wifi or on mobile network. I also tried to delete the app, turn off my phone and reinstall the app. Nothing works.

I am uploading from an iPhone 15 with iOS 26.1 and I have the latest app version: 439.0.1

Can someone please help me?

hey @Jana_S - thank you, I was able to upload media from web browser but by converting the photos from HEIF to JPG first (did not upload HEIF). Strangely, it did not work in the app, when I tried to upload the photo from canva (jpeg format). It seems like the issue is with the photo converter in the app

Hi @AnaPaolanc,

this may be related to something specific about your photos that's not letting Strava compress them. There's an older similar thread that mentions a workaround - editing the photo in some way (e.g. 3rd party app) and re-saving. It's not really a “solution” but might be worth trying, at least to confirm whether it's the same problem in your case:

Hey @Jana_S - seems like the same issue but the workaround doesn’t work either. I used canva to change the photo and downloaded it. I tried to upload the modified photo (now in format jpeg and png) and neither worked. I tried both photos in both wifi and mobile and I get the same error.

I now tried two new things:

  1. download an old photo from my google drive account and try to upload. Same error
  1. Upload a photo I received from whatsapp. Same error.

Could it be the strava media processor?

So it sounds like the cause is probably not exactly the same for you… one more thing to try - does upload via the web interface work? even from a mobile browser… if it doesn't work either, it might be a problem with your account (and you’d need to contact Strava Support).

It sounds like you're right! Unfortunately the official documentation doesn't list the supported formats, so this is a bit of reverse engineering...

Also, there seems to be another user mentioning the same problem with the HEIF/HEIC format, but that's already from February - seems to confirm your theory though:
