Hi @arc88, I’ve just tried this and you're right, indeed the behavior seems odd. I’m usually not switching activity types for my heatmap (I just keep all activity types enabled… but it's only run/trail run/walk/hike, so all just foot activities), but it can be quite inconvenient for someone who also does bike rides, for example.
FYI @Lola @Marya @Bryant @Kimberly22 - I’m on fence here, can you please have a look, perhaps it can be classified as a bug? Another opinion could be that it's by design (and this would classify as an “idea”), but frankly said it's not a very user friendly design.
To recap - viewing a particular activity with a personal heat map layer ignores the type of that activity, and displays the heatmap of whichever filter was previously set on the Maps tab, even if it’s different. So for example it will show you a personal Walking heat map for a Ride activity map, without an option to switch (you have to go back to the Maps tab to change this, which is a bit cumbersome). The logical design would be to either match the activity type, or at least allow switching without having to go to the Maps tab.
@Jana_S To be fair I think this happened before the map changeover. I'm also not sure it's a bug exactly, but perhaps an unintended outcome. By the looks of it, when you load any activity it should load the appropriate heat map right? I don't ski but when I open a skiing activity it loads the ski heatmap and should load my personal heatmap, if I had one. Instead it shows bike or whatever I had set before.
So the ideal solution is either
A. Allow manual heatmap control from activity view
B. Automatically switch depending on the activity being viewed.
My preference is B.
@arc88 I feel like this is one of those “is it a bug or a feature” dilemmas that can only be resolved by asking the product manager (i.e. how is it actually supposed to work). Let's wait for their feedback - hopefully one of the tagged moderators can check this for us after the long weekend 🙂
(and yes, any of the two solutions you mentioned would be helpful / better than the current design...)
Hey @arc88 & @Jana_S,
Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
I’ll reach out to my team to confirm whether this is expected behavior or not.
@Bryant I'm going to guess not intended, but you guys will spin it any way you want. When you view different sports the global heatmap changes with it: skiing sees skiing, running sees running, cycling sees cycling. Ergo the user's personal map should switch also, with the option to change available. It's illogical the way it's currently set up.
