Personal heatmap when looking at someone else's route

It appears with the new heatmap update(?) that the feature of being able to see a personal heatmap overlay when looking at the ride/run of someone else has been removed. Perhaps I'm mistaken? If this is no longer available it is a big loss! I hope it will be restored!

Being able to see where someone has been and where I've been nearby is a great feature. I hope it hasn't been lost for long!

Thank you!

Fyi, as of recently, this feature has been restored! Thanks Strava!

Hey @kr2,

Could you be referring to our Global Heatmaps? More information on Global Heatmaps and Heatmaps in general can be found here.

Otherwise, unfortunately there isn’t a way to view your personal heatmap on top of someone else’s activity I do apologize.

Hey @kr2, thank you for providing this additional information.

I’ll reach out to my team to gather more information on the recent changes to heatmaps. Once informed, I’ll provide an update within this thread.

In the meantime, if you have any additional questions or concerns please let me know.
Thank you for being a part of the Hub!

Appreciate it. Thank you!

Just a day or two ago I opened an activity by Jens Voght, riding in Tucson. It was cool to be able to compare his route to where I've ridden. As of today I'm not able to do that, though of course it could be something temporary.

It seems strange that this feature has been removed from the latest version of the app (which also coincides with the release of day and night heatmaps).

Until a few days ago (on the previous version of the app), I could open an activity, open the associated map and I had my personal heatmap as an overlay (as well as the route of the map). I think this could be toggled on and off.

This allowed me to see if a route I or someone else had run, overlaps with somewhere I have been. Useful for my own routes to see if I cut any corners/found a more efficient way of the mountain and with other people's routes for the “oh I run that trail 3 years ago” moments.

Very sad and strange that this feature has been removed given that heatmaps is the main reason I pay for Strava Premium and you seem to push she refine heatmaps. Hopefully, you will bring it back asap (and fix maps sometimes not loading at all).

Hello everyone, I received an update regarding this feature.

Our team is aware of this being temporarily taken down and they are working on bringing it back sometime next year.

Thank you for your patience & understanding.

I used this feature a lot as well, and it's a pity that it's no longer available. In fact, it's about 90% of the reason I subscribe to Premium.

Not working as of late last week for runs.  No option to select Global or Personal, all gone.  This really needs to be restored.

I agree, it is a fundamental function. I also pay only for this functionality. If it is not restored, I will not renew my subscription. Today, February 23, it does not work.

It does work for me… how are you trying to view the map?

I'm using the iOS app > scroll the timeline to find someone's activity done in the neighbourhood > tap the map > tap the Layers button on the right > enable/disable Global and/or Personal heatmap.

Hi,
I use Android.
When you open the Layer tap, there is no longer enable/disable Global.

Oh that's odd - that sounds like a bug in the Android App - @Bryant maybe something that you can help with / bring up with the team..?

Hey @GozzoliP,

Thank you for providing this screenshot of your issue.
If you haven’t done so already, please submit a support ticket so one of our agents can gather more information about your device.

I’ll also bring this up with my team in case multiple android users are experiencing this issue as well.

@Jana_S, thank you for helping and sharing the steps you take to view from iOS.
I’m currently not experiencing this issue on iOS as well so I hope this can quickly be resolved for our Android users.

Strangely the segments map (Android) does still show the heatmap

Indeed, it's missing now in my iOS app too - interestingly, I haven't updated the app between the last time I commented that it worked (2 days ago) and now, so it's likely not version-dependent...

This is now solved for Android, thanks 👏🏻
However, selected layers (Map Type | Heatmap) are not persistent, selection is lost when moving through activities, even when switching Android apps (strava in background process)

It is indeed back now, but the color is very light and difficult to distinguish from the background map (several color tried). Furthermore, it is not possible to modify the color from there; you need to go back to the general map tab to do so.
