Race tag for other events types

Why isn’t a race option a default tag for most events? I’m specifically hoping for one for backcountry skiing, as we have a robust Skimo community in my area with weekly races and a statewide Skimo series. 
I don’t think skimo needs its own activity type, but being able to tag a backcountry skiing activity as a race would be clutch!
