Up until recently, when I shared a run, the image with stats would retain its aspect ratio. This seems to be no longer the case (in the last week).

For example, here is my latest run, ready to share;

However, when I post or even save the image, it is cropped to the portrait aspect ratio.

This has only happened recently, as I have been sharing in the same way every time. Can anyone shed any light on this?

Guys look how “fixed” it is! Issue totally solved. Nothing to see here. Immaculate presentation to share my run in any form other than a story. /sarcasm

You're sharing it wrong 😄😄 truly an iPhone 4 moment 🙈🙈

This update is horrible. It blurs all my landscape photos and it so small that I can barely make them out. I want to share the photo and advertise for Strava but if I can't make the photo out. I'll just share the Picture and Data using another app. I like Strava a and this update is not it. Please go back.

Ah yes I totally forgot! Only stories are allowed in 2025. Grid posts are banned!! Thank you for reminding me!

2025 is the year of stories only. Grid is canceled.

“it’s not us, it’s the users who don’t know what they want”

Why break something that wasn't in need of fixing?

The Strava product team turned a perfectly functional image sharing template (that included Strava branding) into an obnoxious advertisement.

I like sharing photos from my runs for my friends to see.  I don't want to be sharing an advertisement with garbage formatting.  Strava's sharing feature is now useless to me.

I love how this topic shows “solved”. Since this update I haven’t ahared a single Strava activity and I haven’t seen anyone else do it either. A shame really that no one seems to care about the feedback :(

As Strava don’t seem interested in listening to users I’ve cancelled my subscription. 😡

Also, it makes the photo dull; please revert this change.

Put me in the camp of those extremely displeased with this "update".  It is certainly not solved.  Just got hit with this a couple of days ago on Android and it is terrible.  How did anyone actually testing this not catch what a truly awful output this now generates?

It’s funny how the admin came in and marked it solved themselves after posting to say “we fixed it” without even acknowledging what was actually being asked for and just doing something nobody wanted. Not a good look.

Strava apparently tries to imply that I’m running like a headless chicken… 🫠

Hello all!

With the latest Strava app update, we made improvements to fix the 9:16 image cropping issue. Images should now display correctly without being cut off.

Your input about the size of the stats is really valuable, and we’ve passed it along to the team in charge for consideration in future improvements.

We appreciate you taking the time to share your experience — it helps us continue to improve Strava for everyone.

Hi there,

With the new "improvements", my pictures end up getting stretched out when trying to share on IG stories, and I can't use them. I like sharing pics from hikes, runs & rides but I won't be sharing my Strava activities if it ruins the pictures. See example below of stretched out picture I attempted to post

The new share templates have been poorly thought out.

  • Forcing people to export as a 9*16 image.
  • Stretching their images to fit.
  • Not being able to export a square map for the grid.

Even if you insist on keeping these knew stories focused templates, could you at least add the old templates back?

Until this is resolved, I’ll revert to sharing square run summaries from Garmin Connect.

It looks soooo terrible. Please fix! Or I'll just go back to Garmin for community and sharing.

This is getting tedious. Please revert to how it was. If the pic I uploaded to Strava is landscape, I want the pic I share out of Strava to be landscape, not this landscape-made-portrait nonsense with extra blurry nonsense top and bottom. And the enormous stretched font is dreadful.

We would appreciate an update on this. It’s very clear that when you closed the issue that you missed the mark. You haven’t solved anything.

"With the latest Strava app update, we made improvements to fix the 9:16 image cropping issue. Images should now display correctly without being cut off."

That isn't the issue. You've forced 9:16 on everyone and made everything worse. Maps are now a small thumbnail in a 9:16 image faded on edges and overlaid with text and Strava branding that makes it fairly useless. I want people to see the map primarily.

Just bring back what we had, even if you offer the new style as an option. It wasn't broken and this offers no improvement.

I don’t understand why something like this is asking too much. I use a Garmin watch to record and use Strava to aggregate my data. But if my data aggregator won’t format my data in a way that’s useful then what’s the point of having it?

Having complained to support about this stupid change I received this response:

We understand your frustration with the recent change to the sharing layout. We’ve already shared this feedback with the appropriate team.

While we can’t revert to the previous layout at the moment or offer a toggle between vertical and horizontal views, your input is valuable and will be taken into account as future improvements are considered.

I’m glad I cancelled my membership!

I’ve just cancelled my subscription. The replies from support on this topic are unsatisfactory and i’m not paying for devs to meddle with features unnecessarily which were perfectly fine.

Hey @Lola / @Bryant

Given the radio silence from the admin team since having falsely marked this issue as resolved previously, should we go ahead and assume that Strava isn’t interested in the feedback of the people using and paying for the app on this matter?

Hello Everyone,

As mentioned before, we’ve shared the feedback of your frustration with the appropriate team. There currently isn’t a known timeline of when this issue will be resolved. However, we can assure you the team is aware of the growing frustration and working on resolving this as soon as they can.

We thank you all for your patience & feedback as your input does indeed matter to us.

The loss of the 1:1 share feature is truly frustrating. Screenshotting the app to crop the map is not a great solution. It’s unfortunate product development has meant a loss of features.

@Bryant

Thank you for the update.

I really don't want to be difficult but it would also be helpful if you could elaborate even a little bit on what the issue is?

I mean, you're not building new features directly onto the main development branch, are you? Isn't/shouldn't there still be/have been a branch with the old activity sharing feature on it?

I do understand that simple isn't always easy and maybe you can't just slap a toggle on it but it does seem like the kind of thing that shouldn't take months to resolve, if Strava does intend to resolve it.

Is there ANY update on this at all?! I'm starting a 20-week training block leading up to the Palermo marathon in November. Like most users, I massively preferred the option of a 1:1 ratio for sharing posts to social media to track progress and use said socials as a visual training diary for myself and my coach to use. It also made it easier (and neater) sharing to JustGiving for any charity donations.

Having to screenshot and crop it such a useless requirement, it was much easier before.

My Garmin app allows me to use the 1:1 ratio so like a few others have mentioned above, I'll just start using that in future if Strava doesn't listen to its users.
