Hi, I haven’t found any similar bug report so I hope I’m not reporting something already known. For a few weeks (since I upgraded to the latest release of strava in July’25 I believe) it has become impossible to follow a route (Mountain Bike). I can upload my route and start following/recording but after some time the recording starts lagging more and more behind my actual position and eventually the app displays an error message and reinitializes, losing all the positions since the point between the latest recorded position and my actual position, and stopping displaying the route. Then the problem occurs again every 5 to 10 minutes, and each time I have to reload the route.

I have tried everything I could : reinstalling the app, rebooting the phone before using the app, closing/deactivating other apps to make sure only strava was running, but nothing seems to fix the problem. However I have tried using in parallel another app like outdooractive or openrunner for route following while still recording with strava, this works well (so it’s not a problem of phone CPU overloaded - I’m using a pretty recent Samsung Galaxy A34).

Thanks for advising a solution or fixing the bug ASAP so I can use strava as a sole app for route following and recording.

Hi, I have a similar problem. When I try to ride following a route in the beginning the route shows correctly on the map (thick red line) but after I start the activity, the route disappears. And recently it happened as described by JCR above, the app displays an error message and reinitializes, losing all the positions since the point between the latest recorded position and my actual position. The error happened only in my last activity, but not showing the route happened a lot of times before.

The app was updated and the phone restarted before the ride. I have a Samsung S23. The app has all the permissions possible, to use the gps, to run in the background, to not be put to sleep…

It would be really appreciated if you could find a solution for this bug. Thank you!

Hi, It's not exactly the same issue but is related to zoom and is happening since recently, when you introduced this new "navigation mode” view for recording an activity. Before this we could zoom the map for the desired level and the "re-center” button would just re-center the map - position the map with our location in the center without zooming in. Now the re-center function also zooms in (very much).

So now, if you want to use your phone just from time to time, when you need to get some directions, and the rest of the time to leave it with the display turned off you have only two options:

  1. to use the "center/re-center” function that would show your location on the center of the map but is not useful for getting directions because is so zoomed in that you can not understand where you are. And this function is more useless considering that you also have a bug and the “follow a route” is not functioning (also since this “so loved” update);
  2. to zoom at a desired level but when turning on the screen the map will remain where it was when you last turned off the display, so now you must scroll after your location.

So please give us back the option to set our desired level of zoom when recording/navigating.

Thank you!
