Hi, I run on trails a lot and recently learned I am supposed to be able to log runs as a trail run. But somehow that’s not possible for me. If I want to edit the run later, I can only choose between “run”, “long run”, “workout” and “commute”. No trail run option in sight. I am using an iPhone. Anyone with the same problem?

Those options are tags. If you go to the activity edit screen you can find the dropdown for activity type. It is right below the description box. When you record an activity using the app, you can also choose trail run on the second from left option. And if you use a watch or such device, you can tell it trail run as well if it supports it.
