You could vote for the idea
Thanks, @Jan_Mantau. But your idea might open the field too much so in the end nothing is easy and clear anymore. I think there should not be more than about 5 possible choices.
What problem would this solve?
Why do we distinguish on Strava between training and commuting? Because it is something else.
Traveling is something else, too.
Commuting means often doing short distances training and not giving it all because you don’t want to arrive in the office sweating and gleaming.
Commuting means often doing short distances training and not giving it all because you don’t want to arrive in the office sweating and gleaming.
Traveling means often doing long distances with different, heavier material and even luggage. A separate category traveling would stop Strava telling me that I have become slow just because I changed to a heavier bicycle with luggage on it.
You don’t need to justify yourself to a useless AI if that is telling you you were slower than usual. Just ignore it like everyone else does.
You could create a new idea with the travelling tag but I’m sure it will be merged with the other idea I linked to anyway.
I do not justify.
I just want make travelling by one’s own force make visible on strava.
We might add 2 more categories like “family” or “pleasure”—but more would be too much, I guess.
Enjoy cycling! Myriam

…
On Strava, we distinguish commuting from other activities because, by its nature, it is repetitive, predictable and uninspiring. By labelling commutes as such, users have the option of hiding them from their feed, in favour of more interesting content.
I wouldn't presume anyone's ‘travels’ would be described as I have commutes, so I don't see any need to distinguish them from other activities. The benefit of keeping the categorisation system as simple as possible is more apparent to me.
Thanks for your answer, @Tadhg!
Well I see quite some differencies between commuting and travelleing as well:
Travelling
- is not repetitive at all
- is interesting, even inspiring for other travellers
- is very often abroad
- by bycicle, on foot, by canoo, … is a way of living
I hate posting my cycling travels as traininig or commuting: they both do not fit at all.
best regards from Switzerland – Myriam
As mentioned before, you have to create an idea (in https://communityhub.strava.com/ideas) if you want exactly this tag for many sport types. Requesting something in the trouble shooting section won’t lead to a new feature. Not that the chance of that is much higher when creating an idea in the right place but miracles happen.
Thanks so much for your help, @Jan_Mantau! I’ve placed the idea there now but am nat sure at all about the category I placed it. For non native English speakers, this platform is not so easy to understand.
So let’s hope for a miracle! I added your idea within mine … ;-)
@myriam_sings_cycling there's actually a specific section of the hub here, https://communityhub.strava.com/ideas When you post an “idea”, people can add their vote (instead of a “question”)
Thanks, @Jana_S—I’ve already done so and wanted to delete this post, but didn’t find a way to do so.
It’s a bit difficult to post an idea: when you search—as recommended—for similar ideas before posting, you leave unknowingly the “ideas” platform and land ont the “discussion” platform. (One might (mis?)interpretate this as strava doesn’t really want to read ideas of improvement … :-o)
