If I receive a notification about a completed activity by a friend, say a run, when I click on it to view it, the map is zoomed out so far I can see the most of Europe and Africa. Is this a bug in an update or have I switched something?

Please go ahead and delete the Strava application from your phone. Power your device off for 10 seconds, turn your phone back on and reinstall the Strava application. You will not lose any data if you do this since all data is stored on the Strava servers.

That’s a bug in Strava’s new map view, it happens often for some weeks and doesn’t depend on the browser. You can try to refresh the page or switch between “Analysis” and “Overview” or select a segment if there is one.
