Heat maps are so great but I feel like making them activity specific takes a huge amount of value out of them. Especially when they are split up between trivial differences like Run and Trail Run (or even Hike for that matter). Does anyone know why this decision was made? Any word of just One Heat Map on the horizon?
If you want to display The One Heatmap to Rule Them All you can use the website and select “All Sports” from the activity dropdown on the maps page. Separating activities makes the most sense because of terrain. Trail running involves much more elevation change and running over rough and uneven surfaces like rocks and tree roots which not everyone is into. Similarly, by selecting that option runners can see popular and tested trail running areas. It’s also why I don’t need to see swimming or kayaking areas when I’m creating a cycling route.

Aha, so the browser version has exactly what I wanted! Thanks for the pointer! I just get lost in the App’s world, I suppose. Obviously, would still like feature parity between the two platforms, but this looks great

There is another post that has been requesting more parity between the website and the app. I would encourage you to check out that thread and add your comments and upvote. STRAVA App/Website Parity: have features/functionality the same on Web and Mobile | Community
