Happy Tuesday!
Let's start off with some did you know?...
You may have heard that a group of wolves is a pack and a bunch of cattle is a herd; but did you know that a 'group' of cats is a clowder? Yes, that's the correct word for a group of cats and we have quite the clowder of cats here at Strava!
Let's start with Jiji (he/him):
Jiji is a 10 year old feline living in San Francisco, CA with one of our Engineers, Daniel. His favorite thing in the world is feeling warmth, whether that be from laying down in a sunbeam or being huddled up next to the radiator. If neither of those are available he loves to cuddle up on a lap or two. Being the runt of his litter, Jiji is on the smaller side and some medical issues have made it very difficult for him to put on weight, but he still loves to eat and will meow and meow until he gets his snacks. Jiji's human calls him 'the best work companion I could ever ask for.'
Next we have Ruth (she/her) & Cooper (he/him):
These are two of the newer additions to the Strava family. They are 9 months old and live in Chicago with one of our Engineers, Julia. Ruth is a black cat with lots of energy. She enjoys tormenting her brother, climbing the blinds as high as she can and playing with all the toys. Cooper is a tabby and very, very lazy. He enjoys digging in the dirt of indoor plants, loves to cuddle and enjoys sleeping. Their shared interests are watching birds out the window and stealing their humans chair as soon as they get up. Their guardian highly recommends adopting a bonded pair from your local shelter noting that Ruth and Cooper 'have brought a lot of joy into the work from home world for me!'
Next up: Milkshake's (he/him):
Milkshake was adopted from a cat rescue in California and now resides in Pennsylvania with his 2 humans (Sheila, on our Community Management team and her husband, Matt) and 3 feline siblings Shivers, Catnip & Bella (more about them in a future post).
Milkshake is a VERY vocal demanding cat. His human volunteered at the rescue where he was at and after a few months of him not being adopted, she couldn't stand his complaints anymore and took him home. Now, at age 13, he's had a number of "Milkshake" moments:
-Milkshake, looking better in a tie than his Human Dad.
-Milkshake, making the 40 hour drive from San Francisco to Pittsburgh and spending approximately 38 of those hours complaining.
-Milkshake having such a fearful reaction to overhead ceiling fans that the vet recommends just never using them (apparently some cats perceive them as large flying predators)
-Milkshake crying loudly at his human until they follow him to the feeding area; he had been fed in the "wrong" bowl. He needed his usual bowl that was in the dishwasher. Once the food was in the correct bowl, all was good.
In spite of his quirks and sensitive nature, he's been a loving companion over the years and he usually spends part of his day "helping" his humans while they work.
Here's Miso (she/her) & Ginger (she/her):
Miso and Ginger are shelter twins that were adopted from the San Francisco SPCA during the pandemic when they were 8 weeks old. They're now 2 1/2 and live with our Strava teammate, Enakshi in Denver, CO where they have indoor/outdoor access. When frolicking outside their humans can track them using their GPS tracking collars. Miso is a cuddle bug that would happily spend all day and night on a lap or under the covers in bed snuggling up against you. She demands a lot of attention and likes to make an appearance during Strava Zoom meetings.
Ginger is a feisty ball of energy that's constantly on the move. She consistently ranks #1 on the Tractive leaderboard step count for her neighborhood. It's basically Strava for cats. When she finally does get tired, she turns into an absolute cuddle bug like Miso. Ginger and Miso absolutely adore each other and their active lifestyles in Denver! They are currently working on harness training so they can be trail cats one day.
Last up for today: Vincent the Haunted Cobweb (he/him):
Vincent the Haunted Cobweb is 11 years old and resides in Bristol, UK with our Engineer, Illya. He enjoys watching his humans cook, helping with emails, singing the songs of his people and causing a ruckus. Vincent was the runt of his litter, and is now a pretty small adult cat weighing just over 3 kilos (~6.5 pounds). What he lacks in stature he makes up for in fluff, conversation and character, an absolute testament to the amount of charisma you can pack into such a tiny creature.
