Most cyclists think in terms of kilometres. Most runners in the UK and US think in terms of miles. My thinking is with the most, so I have my Garmin set to display kilometres cycling and miles running. But Strava forces me to choose one or the other. This poses me a problem: as a cyclist I do not understand how far or fast a ride is when distance and speed are expressed in miles, while as a runner I do not understand how far and fast a run is when distance and pace are expressed in kilometers! Please could you fix it so that I can display my rides in kilometers and my runs in miles, just as I do on my Garmin. Thanks!

Yes add me to the list of people who want this. I use miles for my hiking but meters for swimming since most pools are measured in this.

What is the progress of this request? Is it being looked at at all? I appears to be ongoing as a request for some time now.

I second the related idea posted in a previous comment: the ability to view elevation in a different unit than the distance. For example, the distance in miles and the elevation in meters.

Thanks.

I'd like:

Windsurfing / sailing = kts

Cycling/running = miles

Swimming = meters

Amazes me this can't be customised already - I like using strava, but the lack of choice on units is simply frustrating.

Yes please Strava -

I'd want

Running - Miles

Cycling - Miles

Swimming - KM

Elevation - KM

Mavo, Simon, agreed we need more flexibility. Anyone should be able to define the units they want by activity:

Distance, Elevation, Pace, Speed.

Strava, you could keep a default Imperial/Metric as baseline/reset but ultimately we need the flexibility.

As most mentioned, it is available on other platforms and it is just the kind of things that will slowly drive people away in time if not addressed.

Most people use Strava to log/view their activities so it is critical to be able to view them in a way that is most useful.

C'mon Strava - this is such a logical one that would benefit everyone who engages in more than one sport! I would have thought it would be a simple addition technically and in terms of the user experience.

Someone on the STRAVA Community Hub Team may correct me but I am sure, because I have wanted this change for years, that in the very early days of Strava there was a different request system and, on that system, one of the requests was to be able to choose units?

Please come on Strava, implement this change, I am probably not the only user switching between the two choices on a regular basis as I want cycling in miles, altitude in metres and swimming in metres. The units issue is my number one bugbear with Strava.

Couldn’t agree more - this feature needs to be added and I’m really confused as to why it’s not a simple one to add. Why hasn’t this been implemented yet? It’s so frustrating not knowing what yards/min is and having to work it out on another app or via a conversion on Google

I am with you Websterjack, we need flexibility in unit settings by measures (distance, elevation, speed, pace) and by activities. I think this goes beyond visual annoyance. This is actually preventing us from using Strava as a source of information for training.

This idea only has 50+ kudos as of now and I see ideas with several hundreds of kudos still waiting

I suspect Strava do not have the development power to rollout features more often, or worse they do not care. Unfortunately this will only drive unsatisfied users to go somewhere else as soon as they can unles they acknowledge and turn things around.

Other options is knowing someone on the inside who could accelerate things...

Is the lack of kudos due to it only being a wish for users outside the USA?

@2old2rr I think even in the US which tends to use miles across most disciplines, if you run track or short events like 5K or 10K, you might be used to using the metric system for running, but miles for cycling etc.

This is a must- it’s crazy that you can’t chose which units you prefer for a specific sport rather than have to chose either imperial or metric only for all. This seems like an easy fix Strava and would make a lot of people  happy! Like others I use miles for running and cycling but metres for swimming

100% agree with Sbeg75 - it shouldn’t even get to a point where we’re even begging for it to be added either it seems like common sense to be a feature and should of been a feature years ago

Upvote for the ability to select measurement units on the activity feed screens at will. Per activity type would be an improvement but on the fly switching would be the ultimate solution as often other people will write about their pacing etc in their activity in different units than I would use so being able to flick back and forth would be the ultimate community friendly solution in my view.

I pace my running in miles but my swimming in metres. However I have Canadian running friends who talk in min/km so would like to compare stats with them easily without doing mental maths.

Hi Goldenbear, once you set the unit for activities (run, swim, bike)  and measures (distance, pace, speed, elevation), I would think these same units would apply to your activities and other people's activity.
