Hi,

I'm looking for a way to have these statistics included with my runs on strava.

I use strava to record my running and view statistics which is great.

First I started using the strava Apple Watch app but it didn't include these extra statistics. I know for example Garmin watches can sync these data to strava running activities, but don't want to buy a new watch and wondered if this is also possible with my Apple Watch. I found out that the workout app on iOS 16.1 and Apple Watch 9.1 includes this data, but not all data is synced to strava .

Is this already on the roadmap or hopefully a good idea to add :)?

Kind regards

Martijn

UPDATE FROM STRAVA (March 18, 2024)

Hello and thank you to everyone who has added their comments and feedback to this topic.

First, we want to say that we appreciate you all reaching out on this matter and sharing your thoughts. We absolutely understand the value of having as much of your activity data on Strava as possible, and how many of our athletes use an Apple Watch to record that data. We do want to let you know that we are committed to improving both the Strava Watch app experience and the integration we have with the Apple Workout app (Healthkit).

Our team is pushing forward to streamline and improve the user experience with the Strava watch app, making recording and syncing activities easier for athletes. We are also investigating how best to bring over more data from Healthkit to Strava, particularly with the releases of watchOS 9 and watchOS 10.

We will continue to work towards these goals and monitor this thread. Please be on the lookout for improvements to the Apple Watch experience in the coming year.

Hi,

Thank you for a great app to track and also motivate my workouts.

I’m collecting my data from an Apple Watch and connected power devices on my bike. I read that power data gathered via Apple Watch/Fitness app is currently not supported. Are there any plans to include this data?

thank u in advance

Erik

With the release of WatchOS 10 on September 23, Apple has enabled the pairing of cycling accessories with the Apple Watch, allowing for an enhanced experience in the Apple Fitness app. However, I’ve noticed that Strava isn’t importing data from these accessories.

Currently, when I import my activities into Strava, it only displays the duration and heart rate for indoor cycling, without showing additional metrics like cadence and speed, despite having compatible Ant+/Bluetooth accessories. I suspect that power meter data would not be imported either if I were to use one.

In contrast, if the same accessories are connected to a Garmin or Wahoo bike computer, all relevant data is accurately displayed.

It would be great to have cadence, power and as many other metrics that can be imported from Apple HealthKit.

Community is waiting import of very important (basic) metrics for years... This is TOP idea. Then almost half year ago was announced that they working on this. But still, NOTHING is done. I'm paying money, but still using Strava and native apple app to analyse metrics for my runs...

This isn't an "Idea" it's a bug fix. Makes me question whether Strava has the right priorities in mind.

Reading this idea from cover to cover, I would posit that we should split it into multiple suggestions:

  1. Capturing running dynamics data from Apple Watch and processing this data with Strava.
  2. Writing additional data fields collected by Strava either from Strava or third party connections like Garmin back to Health Kit.

For the latter:

  • Right now the Strava write to Apple Health only includes heart rate, distance, average speed, and calories.
  • Data fields that should be written include:
    • Elevation (data stream not avg)
    • Speed (data stream not avg)
    • Cadence (data stream not avg)
    • Power (data stream not avg)
    • GPS track
  • The 4iiii app (and qz now) can write all of those fields, however, Garmin Connect, Strava, and Echelon have not updated for changes made over a year ago now.

Apple is now accepting app updates for iOS 18/watchOS 11 in readiness for release on Monday. Can we expect Strava to update the app with the iOS 16, 17 & 18 features we've all been requesting?

This post has aged like warm milk. Looking online to get cadence included in my stats a premium user (which I already deemed overpriced for what it actually provides, but it's motivating so I begrudgingly paid.)

This is a pretty basic extra piece of data that apple watches are clearly capable of recording and strava is clearly capable of handling, yet people have been requesting it directly in the app for literally years and nothing has happened. Not sure why something seemingly simple is effectively being treated like a new feature request and realistically, ignored.

Would be great to see this finally added...

When will we get an update to this? Think I’ll let my subscription lapse this year.

Do you see what I see? 🤓

(and yes we still need also cadence... but fair enough - baby steps!)

It’s always shown average power but it’s always estimated. Does this now mean that it’s working natively using the Apple Watch? Or is it still estimated?

I’ve given up waiting and use HealthFit to sync all activities as this adds all metrics the watch’s records by default even for walking.

@Damo it appears to be using the data from the Apple Watch (there's just a minor difference, perhaps caused by rounding when calculating the average):

Well I updated Strava before last nights fattie Mtb ride, bike was out of commission 3 weeks due to crank issue, it has accurate power meter

Here was the ride

168w avg, breakout

So I got excited when Strava matched it within 1 W, never has before upon upload

But the web version says “est”, estimated not real data 👎🏻🤬

Hmm, wonder if that’s just an error on the web view of the summary?

on a separate note, what power meter do you have on the bike please? Looking to add one to my mountain bike too.

There are so many variables on power meters, check out power meter  for selection, Dave there was very helpful to me and answered multiple questions
