Hi,

I'm looking for a way to have these statistics included with my runs on strava.

I use strava to record my running and view statistics which is great.

First I started using the strava Apple Watch app but it didn't include these extra statistics. I know for example Garmin watches can sync these data to strava running activities, but don't want to buy a new watch and wondered if this is also possible with my Apple Watch. I found out that the workout app on iOS 16.1 and Apple Watch 9.1 includes this data, but not all data is synced to strava .

Is this already on the roadmap or hopefully a good idea to add :)?

Kind regards

Martijn

UPDATE FROM STRAVA (March 18, 2024)

Hello and thank you to everyone who has added their comments and feedback to this topic.

First, we want to say that we appreciate you all reaching out on this matter and sharing your thoughts. We absolutely understand the value of having as much of your activity data on Strava as possible, and how many of our athletes use an Apple Watch to record that data. We do want to let you know that we are committed to improving both the Strava Watch app experience and the integration we have with the Apple Workout app (Healthkit).

Our team is pushing forward to streamline and improve the user experience with the Strava watch app, making recording and syncing activities easier for athletes. We are also investigating how best to bring over more data from Healthkit to Strava, particularly with the releases of watchOS 9 and watchOS 10.

We will continue to work towards these goals and monitor this thread. Please be on the lookout for improvements to the Apple Watch experience in the coming year.

Hence Strava we want to have our power meter real data that is gathered by Apple Watch (and cadence) sync to Strava .. not use your algorithm est power data

“A cycling power meter allows you to see and record exactly how much power you expend on the bike – which provides enormous insight into your fitness. A power meter can not only help you become faster and stronger, but can serve as an important tool on race day, help with motivation during training and tell you when it’s time to rest, just to name a few benefits.

They have become essential training tools for cyclists of all levels who want to accurately measure their performance, become stronger, faster and reach their full potential.”

I’d like to add I’ve spent $$$ for power meters in all 3 of my bikes, crank based that measure both legs with 1.5% accuracy.  It’s annoying that Strava won’t sync real power meter data via Apple Watch.

I am also voting for this to be implemented. It is quite shocking that so much data is available in iOS and not imported to Strava. Cadence should be very basic....

Sorry guys but you chose to go Apple Watch. Why that thing is marketed as 'fitness tech', I have no idea. Doesn't even have support for ANT+ ffs, Spotify never worked properly, and the battery life is atrocious. You spend your whole time just trying to find workarounds for its shortcomings.

I wasted so much money and time on two brand new models of Apple Watch before switching to Garmin and never looking back. The final straw was my weeks-old AW6 shutting down from cold halfway through a winter run.

Honestly, if you actually care about tracking your activities, fitness and health, get a Garmin.

@joemain Not really the place to rant on with your opinions mate, jog on.

I literally can't think of a more appropriate place to suggest an alternative to Apple Watch than a thread of people complaining that their Apple Watch doesn't work...

You miss the point @joemain. Our Apple Watches work just fine - it’s Strava that’s not working. They advertise they import data from other popular fitness devices and yet don’t have proper integrations with the most used one in the world

@SoonerJohn Strava isn't the problem here. Why do you think every other platform plays nice with Strava apart from Apple? It's because Apple go out of their way to make outside integration with their products difficult/impossible to keep people in their ecosystem. They are known for it

If you had bothered to read the posts and not just blindly assume you would have understood the issue is Strava and not Apple.

Strava will display all metrics recorded by the Apple Watch when synced via another app rather than directly via Apple health.

Strava is blocking or stopping the data when the activity is uploaded directly from Apple.

Idiot!

Still not the point @joemain.. Hard or easy doesn't change the fact that Strava advertises "Import your HR and power data, then let Strava analyze it to show you how hard you’ve been working. Strava accepts data from nearly every type of fitness device."  If they aren't going to integrate properly (which can be done) with the most popular fitness device on the market then they should be upfront about that in their advertising/marketing.

You're adding nothing useful to this conversation, so go troll elsewhere!

Correct Joe, and I’m glad you’ve worked out that it’s Strava’s issue not Apple, wasn’t that hard now was it.

I’ll re-post here what I did 4 weeks ago:

“Garmin & Wahoo are literally $hit scared that people don’t need their tiny head units , there must be some kickbacks to Strava execs .. any programmer who captures VOC, voices of customer, has heard us the community.  Yet not done.

Occam’s razor is true here: the simplest answer is to follow the money trail “

Well Strava has NOT been updated to reflect actual human cycling power.

I’ve got this SRAM powrmeter on my new bike.

IMG_6091.jpeg

It recorded 151W power

IMG_6086.jpeg

Strava used their algorithm and gave 15% less , 129 Strava /151 actual , that’s not trivial

Another real world example: 133W Strava est / 167W actual measured; Strava is 21% low.

my Mtb bike, equipment is SRAM crank based power meter, measures both legs.

P.S.  I upload to Strava via my Apple Watch, which also has this data.
