I've seen requests for hiding activities from the feed (zwift for instance, and I can see why).  I have a similar-ish feature idea.  I know a lot of people who do multiple activities in a day (I'm guilty of this), and as such, they can clutter the feed of others.

My feature suggestion:

If an athlete performs an activity on a day, have that show in the feed as normal, but if the same athlete then uploads more activities, group them into a single section that can expand/collapse (+/-) so that others may see just a 'summary card' of the activities rather than all of the activities that person did in a given day (or, expand to see them all).  It would be an accordion like feature, and in the settings, you could set default to expanded or collapsed, so you could choose how those show up.

Hey Strava I have an idea!

I know I'm not the only one who can get slightly irritated by the 'strava spam'. By this I mean when one Athlete does one training session but records it as separate activities, whether this is because they don't want their slower warm up and cool down to reduce their overall average pace of a session or perhaps they are a triathlete doing a BRICK session.

I have a solution. A 'group activity function'. This would allow users to group several activities which are done on the same day within roughly the same time zone together. Activities would still be recorded, uploaded and be able to viewed and kudosed separately but if the athlete wanted could be grouped together in a folder which could then be separately named. This could then be displayed on there feed in a more compact manner. If viewers wished to view each activity individually there could be a drop down button.

If you like this idea and want to chat further I would be more than happy to discuss this as well as other ideas I have.

I think it will be great if Strava implements Activity Aggregation for every athlete's multiple activities on each day.

What is it?

Activity aggregation will allow all activities from a single day to be grouped together under one post so that there is no activity spam.

Why is this important?

People complain about having multiple activities show up in their notifications feed.

I am guilty of posting multiple activities a day. Every morning I practice bodyweight training, run, then I walk at night. Weekends are worse. I'll do more. Hiking, cycling, gym sauna, etc.

Even if the athlete selects private activity, I think Strava still sends a notification, but the activity isn't able to be viewed.

There should be one notification per athlete per day for public activities (unless the athlete manually clicks that they want to send out a notification.)

How does it work?

Activity aggregation would automatically group together all activities for the day under one day. The athlete can select which activity they want to highlight as the main activity of the day. The notification would only be sent out once per day unless the athlete manually selects that they want to send out a notification for a subsequent activity that day.

Here is one example: Warming-up before a race is the first activity. That sends notifications out to everyone, then there's a race and athlete wants to send notification. Then there's a cool-down run and the activity won't notification)

This is similar how multiple activities show up in a daily view in Garmin.

The athlete has the ability to select not to send out notifications for any activity (even the first activity of the day).

Hello @Shant

Thanks for posting your idea regarding aggregating multiple daily activities.  A similar idea was already submitted so I've moved your comment here.

This helps us keep the forums organized and makes sure suggestions are easy to find and votes for them aren’t divided across duplicate ideas. Don’t forget to show your support by clicking on the kudos button.

Thanks Jane!

Sorry I forgot this idea was submitted by CreakyCrank. I didn’t find it today when I searched for spam/activity aggregation.

Thanks again and hope this gets more upvotes! 🙏

Many times on Strava, I will see an user with the following activities:

  • 5 min pre-run stretch (10:00 am)
  • 10 min warm up (10:07 am)
  • 30 min 5k race run (10:30 am)
  • 5 min cool down run (11:01 am)
  • 5 min cool down stretch (11:06 am)

It would be nice to group all of these activities under one post. This can be done by associating every activity starting/ending within a time preference to be automatically grouped together. For the above example, all of the workouts that started or ended within an hour of each other should be grouped.

From the user's perspective, all of these activities are essential to a good workout. The user doesn't want to combine these activities into one major workout as it will skew the data. It also doesn't seem feasible to hide or make private the supplemental activities from the timeline to appear less spammy.

From the follower's perspective, the activities come off spammy. Sometimes, I miss the main activity of the users (example the 5k race) while navigating through a bunch of warm up and stretches. It would be nice to give one kudos that would apply to the group of activities instead of having to give multiple kudos for essentially one event.

Thank you for your consideration. 🙂

Yes!! I just came here to suggest this when I saw your post. I would like to add that this would be very nice for triathletes who do multiple activities within the same continuous effort. Individual posts can be displayed in a carousel and total distance traveled + total time can be displayed on the group post. With the ability to still click into each individual activity via the carousel.

Subject: Collate same day activities of a person and access with horizontal swipe

Importance: To prevent a single user from cluttering up the activity board when they upload multiple small slices of activity.

Details: Some people track their activities in small sections or triathletes doing bricks etc.

Ex: Warmup, 100 meter backstroke, 500 meter breast stroke, running strides, run cooldown etc.

On the activity board, these uploads by one person ends up cluttering it by forcing you to swipe up to get to another person’s activity.

Solution: Collate one day uploads of a person and access them with horizontal tile swipe, like Instagram does when a user uploads multiple photos or videos.

Result: Uncluttered activity board and people are free to upload multiple activities like they do now.

Currently, many of us upload multiple activities to separate commutes and workouts in order to have accurate data, which is cluttering our feeds.

Suggestion:

Introduce two new options:
1. Start/End Ride: Covers the entire cycling session, including commutes.
2. Start/End Workout: Specifically tracks your focused workout session (something like laps).

Benefits:
- Simplifies activity management.
- Keeps feeds organized with fewer posts.
- Improves workout tracking accuracy.

Your feedback and support for this idea are valuable. Let's make Strava even better for cyclists like us.

Best,
Anas
