I recently upgraded my bike computer and bought a smart watch. Everyone can immediately check what types they are as they are displayed, taken from the .fit file.

I don't need to show off what gear I have. In many places, it's outright dangerous to share that you have an Apple Ultra or a Garmin Tactic watch, as thugs will follow and rob you for it.

So,  please:

  • Create an option to hide the device name that is taken from the uploaded/synched .fit file
  • And/or an option to automatically rename a device between the .fit file and the Strava displaying of it.

Thanks for considering.

Agreed! I understand why you would want to share device type but I feel you should be able to hide it if desired. It seems like a very simple and low-impact change.

Really hope they introduce this. It’s a serious personal security breach

While I did vote for this, I would also like if Strava would allow us to display the recording device when importing activities from third-party apps. I record using the Workout app on my Apple Watch, then import the FIT files into Strava using HealthFit. And even though the FIT files contain the recording device, Strava doesn’t display it. I would actually like it to be the case.

Until Strava makes these changes, anyone worried about their privacy/personal safety can import from a third-party app as a workaround.

Just like the original poster, why does anyone need to know what device I use to record the activity? I can call my bike, shoes or boots what I like without a problem so why not be able to nickname the device?
