Both Nike Run Club and Slopes offer the ability to start a workout on your Apple Watch and for the data the be viewable live on your iPhone (and vice versa). This would be fantastic for those of us who want a larger screen to look at stats during a workout. To on even further, Live Activities would be a great addition. Here is how Slopes implements it with their live workout data from an Apple Watch.

Example:
You start an outdoor cycling workout on your Apple Watch but want to use your iPhone to navigate on your handlebars. Would be great to have the data live and viewable on both screens in order to see speed, distance, etc.

As of now, I have to start 2 simultaneous workouts, one on my watch for capturing HR and one on my phone for live speed on my handlebars, and then delete one after. No bueno.

It seems odd that I need to start recording on my watch manually if I have already started recording on my phone and vice versa.

I have my phone, an iPhone 13 on a quad lock mount in front of me on my bike, which I can now use to see my progress against PRs, speed, time, and if I follow a set route, have the map open in front of me. To have all this I obviously have to select to follow a route, or start recording if it is my commute. This does not start recording on the watch, and does not collect any data after the fact. The same is true on the watch, if I record a ride, it will do nothing on the phone app, so I have to start that manually.

What would be better, as a QoL change, is if I start recording on my watch, then it shows the data on the phone, and if I start recording from my phone, then it starts collecting data from the watch.

Agree, pretty much all the watch gives me compared to the phone is heart rate but that’s a crucial piece of info it would be good to have on my phone screen as I ride.

@Soren I'm new here, how do you vote? Just click the thumbs-up on the initial post? It isn't clear at all.

This is likely covered someplace else, but why can’t my iPhone track treadmill activity like my AppleWatch does?

My Strava watch app doesn’t have an “indoor walk” option - on an “indoor run” choice…

I want to provide some suggestions about improving the interoperability between Strava and the iWatch. And if this is user error, please educate me!

1. I should be able to start a Strava session on my phone (iPhone) and have the stats displayed on my watch if I open the Strava app on my watch. Why? What if I want to see my route on the phone (so I can do an out-and-back in a new city) AND see my pace while I run on my watch. Currently not possible.  Strava lists being able to record a Strava session from your watch and NOT have your phone as a feature, but I think when you have both, you should have the advantages of both screens.

2. You must improve the auto pause feature on the watch. I start my run and at some point I rotate my wrist to look at the screen. If I look too long (like 2 seconds!), it auto pauses. I'm STILL RUNNING. What's more, it takes a few seconds to resume. Annoying. (And because I run with a dog -- frequent stops -- I'm not interested in running without the auto pause enabled.)

It's great that we are commenting here and telling you (Strava) this information, but what is Strava doing about it?? My last comment was in April; we are now in October, and I've yet to see any changes!!!

On the phone app you can start a route but you cannot do it on a Apple Watch. It would be great to start a route and get directions on the apple watch while going on a route.

I find it strange that this is a feature we have to ask for. I remember 5 or so years ago when this happened as a default.

Any updates from Strava on this?

Also waiting for this feature. Runkeeper had this feature too.

Any update to this?  I can't believe this "feature" isn't the standard.  I would like to start a workout on my phone and then be able to just look at my watch for quick stats: heart rate, pace, milage, etc.

@a6braun I know, it is bizarre that in 2023 we even have to request this basic feature!! Strava, what are you doing??

I am also concerned that this basic item is not available on strava. I like strava and the way they handle data, however, to have the two devices not cooperating during exercises is strange and somewhat frustration.

I've been wondering about iPhone/Apple Watch integration ever since I got my Apple Watch. At a minimum, I really would like the app to report heart rate on the display once I've started a session. As it is, I'm left simultaneously starting an iPhone session and a Watch session, then deleting one of them once I'm done (as noted in a post above). This is a kludge. Has it not been implemented because it can't be? Seems as if the Apple Watch could function like a Bluetooth HR monitor connected to the iPhone.
