I think it would be great if Strava allowed athletes to download a Yearbook Album of all of their activities and highlight photos.

What is it?

The Strava Yearbook album is basically a physical copy of all of the activities an athlete completed within a year or multiple years. The album goes in chronological order and can be customized to show multiple activities on one page if it was just a morning run or it can show one big activity on a page if it was a special event like a marathon or multiple photos.

Why is it important?

Having a physical copy of your workouts may be a special gift that athletes gift to each other to feel the weight of their workouts over a year or over multiple years. It makes the work tangible.

How does it work?

Strava partners with a third-party yearbook distributor to allow athletes to create albums based on their data. It creates a physical year in review. Put all the athletes activities in the book along with some data highlights and photos from across the Strava community.

Turn the digital into a physical photo album.

@MalcolmWills Trainingsparkle works actually pretty much as you are describing it.   You can select which activities and photos from Strava you want to include.   You can't select specific data fields at this current in time, maybe one day to consider.    You can download and print the PDF or have it printed as a physical book and delivered to your place.  I am hoping to deliver books to the US in the near future but focus is to get the concept validated and have the pre-orders printed.

Hi Daniel,

So good you picked this up! Just checked your website. Will it be available as a hard cover as well?

Best,

Benjamin

Thanks @bmwerven , before starting this I also had the same problem everyone here is facing: have a tangible memory of all the trainings I've done.   So I started Trainingsparkle.

Yes, hard covers (and maybe soft covers) are the main goal, but a printable PDF will also be available if you want to have it printed yourself.   Document formats supported will be A4 and later on US Letter.

@trainingsparkle thank you for sharing this inspiran! Trainsparkle looks great.

Is the digital offer for all activities in the past year?

Yes indeed, Strava allows Trainingsparkle to retrieve past activities.  Actually the system allows you to retrieve previous years as well.   I documented 2018 for instance for myself when I ran the NYC Marathon.

Also thanks for the lovely feedback.  I do still have some work to get the new layout ready by 7th of January,  Next I will focus on getting the digital offer for US working.  The system already supports miles/yards/feets though so I am not expecting that much work.

Yes please. I screenshot and printed a bunch of activities and was dissatisfied with the results. A professionally made album with ability to choose the activities would be outstanding.

Hey all,

Small update on my part, the v2 has been launched for the test users and overall feedback is very positive.   I am also launching a first test pressing of a physical book later this week.  Now that this phase is over I have started to work on the US letter layout.  I am expecting somewhere next week to complete the work on the US layout.   It is nice to see to US people asking me already to pre-order a physical book.

The most challenging part in general is getting spotlights to work.  Below you can see a render of a spotlight of mine.

I have also created an Instagram account so you all can follow the progress.   https://www.instagram.com/trainingsparkle/

Hi all, I am happy to tell that first test pressing has been delivered and it looks fabulous.

I'm planning February to fulfill European pre-orders (A4 format) and process some small tweaks to make the book even more awesome.  What you all think of the progress?

Looks nice! Are you thinking about A5 as well? I think that size is more convenient.

Thanks @bmwerven ,

It crossed my mind, but as it currently stands A4 / US letter seems to better suited due to a lot of content.   If it was a pure photo book I would definitely say yes, but a lot of athletes tend to document their activities with both photos and text.   I have a several athletes were the book is over 130 pages in A4 format.   I have two surpassing 170 pages.   Mind boggling.

But I never say no, the option is there with the printing service, but I will first focus to actually deliver something this year.    Thanks for your suggestion though, highly appreciated.

While the next pre-orders are being delivered In Europa i  am preparing the software to be able to deliver a hardbook to the US.  I am open for an US based tester, which would get a nice discount for being the first (but accept there might be misprinting issues).  Delivery would most likely be somewhere mid/end of march.

Kind regards,

Daniel

Last friday there was a first product photo shoot which I want to share.

Furthermore more books are now being delivered in Europa.

And more importantly:  Strava also seems to be liking Trainingsparkle as it is now also listed on the Strava Apps print section!
