I’m probably not the first suggesting this, but it would be so great if it was possible to distinguish between running and running with a stroller. This also goes for other sports like riding with a bike trailer, skiing with a sled and hiking with a baby carrier. Maybe it could be solved with a simple box where you could check of for carried weight to an activity? That would make it possible also to mark runs with weight vests, hikes with heavy backpacks and so on. The main aim for this application should be that activities with added weight don’t mess up your stats, and it would also be nice to be able to compare stroller runs etc. As a new parent it can be challenging to priorities the time to work out, so a little motivation boost from Strava would be highly appreciated 🙂

I like the idea of adding the ability to track stroller runs, but I don't particularly care that it's extra weight. I'm more interested in knowing how many miles I've put on the running stroller as a piece of gear, and tracking what percentage of my total miles are stroller miles, things like that. From that perspective, it makes more sense to add stroller functionality as either a new type of run activity (like "Trail Run" --> Stroller Run or Weighted Run), or as a piece of gear that doesn't replace shoes or a bike.

Alternatively, I suggest that the ability to add arbitrary custom tags to any activity would solve a lot of requests simultaneously, including this one. See: https://communityhub.strava.com/t5/ideas/add-user-defined-tags-for-activities/idi-p/2124 . Just tag your activity "weighted" or "stroller" or "bike with baby" or whatever you want, and with the ability to sort on that in My Activities.

2 years on from the original post - have Strava responded to this? I run regularly on my own, with one child in a single buggy and with 2 children in a double running buggy. The difference in speed (due to the different weights carried) really messes up my stats and logs (trending faster, slower etc.) It would be amazing to be able to change the activity type to single or double buggy run. (NB buggy is the word we use for stroller in the UK)

Yep, regularly carry a backpack on either walks/runs/rides that I would liek to add the weight to help the calculations be more useful.

The current calculation of effort and training effect does not allow addition of weight carried for running and trekking - in trail running, commuting, and weighted training this would be a useful addition to show the extra training effect and longer recovery for load carrying runs or walks - and is easily calculated in addition to body weight.

Some of us parents spend quite a bit of time pulling trailers with kiddos in them. Could there be a specific activity type for it? That way, people will automatically know why you worked hard, yet it was a slow ride

Really good idea!! I bike to work, and my bag is at least an extra 20lbs with the laptop, clothing, (two) bike locks, etc.  I'm stating the obvious here, but it's definitely way more of a workout with added weight - especially after biking for 40km with that bag.....

Yeah I do lots of rides and runs with my kiddo in a trailer, why is it so difficult to add the extra category? I mean if velomobile is a category then "bike trailer" should definitely be a category.

I thought about this since my first child.

Would be nice to add a stroller like a bike with weight and type and maybe at a run add additional weight of the child. Sounds funny but as I have run with my child as she was two and now with four years is a high difference.

This has been open for 2 years now. I can't see them doing this. It would be brilliant, but at this rate my baby will be in secondary school.

Hello and thank you to everyone who has taken the time to add your votes and comments to this request.

We want to let you know that we do not intend to add more activity/sport types to Strava in the foreseeable future, and this feature suggestion will be moved to a status of not currently planned.

We appreciate and understand this is not the answer you were hoping for. We strive to be as transparent as possible and provide updates to our Community when they become available.

Please remember that we receive a large number of idea submissions, and even some  popular ideas may not make it to the implementation stage. The number of votes an idea gets is one factor among several that’s considered when our product team develops the roadmap.

For more information, review our Guide to Ideas.

Additionally, a status of not currently planned does not mean this feature suggestion goes away. It will remain open to votes and comments, and may be revisited at some point in the future.

Lastly, we sincerely hope you will continue recording and uploading your activities to Strava. Here is a list of the Sport types that we currently support. It’s always an option to set your activity to sport type “workout” and indicate more specifics in the activity name.

Thanks again for your contributions.

Cheers,

Many who commute to work by bike are habitual and ride daily, no matter the weather. They often carry a heavy load of “Office” clothes and shoes, a computer, an iPad, shower supplies, a towel, a bike repair kit, etc. The list is long, and the weight is heavy. Could Strava add backpack or load weight inputs to the commuting ride selection?

We enter our weight to determine calories burned during a ride; why not enter a load factor for everything we carry on our commute? My backpack usually weighs about 20-25 pounds!

This may also work for hiking with a backpack.

Thank you!

This would be great! Please implement it!

It doesn’t even need to be a new activity type for this functionality to be met - just being able select “additional weight” under “Type of Run/Ride” would take care of it.

Totaly agree! Good input and strange that it's not an option. 😞 it has a huge impact on our run/hike/walk.
