Hi guys,

I love that virtual rowing has been added to Strava. Rowers usually train a lot on the indoor rowing machine (Concept II and RP3 mostly), but mostly post these trainings as 'rowing' which should be done only for the outside sport.
Now, the problem here is that when uploading an activity, the virtual rowing option seems to be missing. What happened here? Can it be fixed?

Hello @Siemen

Thanks for your post.  On Strava, we use the term virtual to include activity uploads that contain virtual GPS data.

Virtual Ride/Run/Row activities are activity recordings which contain virtual GPS, distance, elevation, and time data from a simulated route. You can learn more about virtual activities on Strava here: Virtual Trainer Activities on Strava

In order to classify an activity under a virtual sport type, the activity must be originally recorded as a virtual activity using a supported virtual trainer or treadmill. Performing this action will ensure that your activity file uploaded to Strava has the correct sport type information included. Athletes are no longer able to manually classify activities as virtual.

Since Concept2 doesn't include any virtual GPS data, those activities will be categorized as "rowing" instead of "virtual rowing".

Apologies for any confusion over this.

Would be nice if there would be an indoor rowing activity. Apple Watch indoor rowing is only recognised as (outdoor) rowing. And I would like to add distance and speed, what is not possible in the current rowing activity.

Where is “virtual rowing” or rowing machine in the list of activities when recording on the mobile app?
