Track distance and elapsed time but not time on segments

I love Strava for more than tacking how fast I completed any one segment. I use it to track wear on my components and my overall distance over a given timeframe.

I recently read this article on Bike Radar : https://www.bikeradar.com/features/opinion/why-ive-got-a-big-problem-with-strava Where the author has given up on Strava because of his competitive nature and how he feels when he views how his performance stacked up against others. I’ve heard this same argument from so many others too.

While I like to see how I stack up against others, some clearly don’t. It might be an idea to allow users to disable segment time tracking or time tracking altogether.  It seems to me Strava provides much more value than this one piece that is pushing users away. Just a thought.

They rejected this idea some time ago but it has it merits. However everybody can already achieve that by saving rides and runs not as rides and runs but as workout sport type. The map, the time, heart rate, everything would be there but not the segments. It seems the author of said article didn’t make their research thoroughly.
