Having multiple weird issues with route creation lately

Seeing some very weird anomalies lately with mapping:

  1. In the first image, this was a short, 6 mile run that was saved.  Upon returning to my saved routes, not only did it save a Trans-Atlantic run - the distance was way short.

  2. In the second image, there is a missing “link” between the street and the path (not the issue).  To navigate this, I switched to manual mode and clicked on the path.  A wormhole opened and added 12409.62 miles to my run - a bit further than I’d hoped on this route.  In reality, this was probably no more than 10 yards.  This has happened on numerous occasions both in manual and automatic mapping mode where waypoints that should be about a mile add hundred or thousands of miles.

  3. I have run into several occasions lately where maps will “spin” on updating and become unresponsive.  It’s happened about 3-4 times in the past couple weeks.  Not a huge deal on short runs but kind of annoying when I was 17 miles into mapping my long run and had to redo the whole thing.

  4. I believe this has been mentioned previously but the top 1/3 of the map has become unresponsive due to the new overlay.  Personally, I’m not a fan of the new layout and preferred these options in the sidebar but I’m sure the UX team had their reasons for this.  However, when the elevation map is open (i.e. trying to trace my route), it really reduces the responsive areas of the map.

Hi @Jboz24

Thanks so much for providing this feedback. We’ve recently made some updates to maps/mapping and I would be curious to know if these kinds of issues continue for you.

Information on Maps update is here

Seems like those updates are for mobile only - these issues above are happening on the desktop.

FYI - The mobile/app map experience is pretty poor so I rarely use it and usually just switch over to Garmin or request the “desktop version” of the Strava website in my mobile browser when I do need to map something.
