Dear Strava Support Team,

I hope this message finds you well. I am reaching out to seek clarification regarding the best format for uploading activities to Strava with comprehensive data.

Currently, we are evaluating the following options:

  1. GPX: This format lacks lap data

  2. TCX: Supports lap data but does not include temperature information.

  3. FIT: Seems to be the only format that includes both lap data and temperature, but we understand FIT certification has been discontinued.

Could you kindly advise:

  • Is there an alternative format that supports both lap data and temperature?

  • If FIT is still acceptable for uploads despite the certification discontinuation, are there any limitations we should be aware of?

  • Are there plans to extend TCX or GPX formats to include missing fields (e.g., temperature in TCX)?

We appreciate your guidance to ensure our users receive the best experience with complete activity data

Could you explain what you mean by “FIT certification has been discontinued?”

FIT files are the standard from most devices and provide the richest set of data for an activity. The FitSDK provides routines to encode (and decode) FIT files following the standard so you shouldn’t have any problems with compatibility. If I needed to decide on a format that is what I would go with.

Sorry, my description is wrong. Ant has stopped device authentication. If the device is not authenticated, there will be problems with Strava's altitude. This is the problem at present.

Hi,

I notice you address your note to Strava Support.   This is the Community Hub, not Strava Support.

The hub will try to help you but if you feel you need to raise a ticket with Strava Support will you to do that separately and not via the Hub.
