Want to let your loved one know where you are when you go out for a solo activity? Exploring a new route and don’t want friends or family to worry? If so, check out Strava Beacon...our live location sharing feature available to everyone. Beacon was built to give athletes more control over their own safety, and to keep them connected to their community when they need it most.

You don't have a subscription? No worries, Beacon is available to all when you share using the Strava app on your phone.

You can select up to 3 contacts keep track of where you are, in real time. Your location should update about every 15 seconds, depending on cell service.

Your friend doesn't use Strava? Not a problem; the person following you does not have to have Strava on their phone to follow you. As long as the recipient of your text message has access to a web browser they will be able to see your activity.

Please note that Beacon sharing from connected devices including Apple Watch and Garmin are a part of our subscription due to the complexity of supporting such integrations.

Have you used Strava and have a story to share? You can share it here in the community hub. Thanks to 1Danimal for posting the first Beacon story - If you haven't seen it yet, it's a great read! Check it out here and give some kudos!

Really disappointing that Strava moved the Apple Watch feature for beacon to behind the paid subscription wall. I’ve been using this feature on my watch for quite sometime until my partner, aka emergency contact, recently asked my why he was not getting the notifications anymore? So after checking my watch to see if i accidentally turned it off and much research I’ve discovered I have to pay for it. Disappointing considering it’s a safety feature. Poor form Strava.

Hi @Becspi,

We do offer Beacon without a subscription to all when using the Strava app on your phone. However, due to the complexity of supporting other integrations, Beacon sharing from connected devices including Apple Watch and Garmin are a part of our subscription.

Reading between the lines it seems it is a shortcoming of Apple rather than Strava... Mmmm... Who'd ever have known 😉 😉

Is it possible to use Beacon to track a small group (say eight) riders? If not, is this a service you could consider providing on an ad hoc basis, even if it had to be paid for. I’m just wondering if all riders put the same contact in as one of the three for a back up guy/girl with a van/ support that person could monitor all the riders, even if they ended up spread out on the ride. Thank you! Stave is excellent. I’m more than happy to pay for it! Cheers, Tim

My issue is that on my Android phone, the beacon text is not automatically sent.  Or if it is, I am not notified.  When I select the pop up reminder to send the beacon text, I have to manually find my contacts and send them the URL.  What am I doing wrong?
