Receive the option to use a new screen / interface to record an activity this morning. Wanted to share some early feedback. (iPhone app user, UK based.)

Positives:

  • Great to see the time & distance on the map screen. No more switching between screens to know how far I’ve travelled while following a route. This is a huge improvement and outweighs all the other items below. Thank you!
  • Good to have an easily visible option to add a route at the start of my ride.

Negatives:

  • Strange to see ~20% of the bottom of the screen permanently occupied with a huge Pause button and a Send Beacon Text option. I don’t want to pause while I’m moving. In fact, I definitely don’t want to accidentally pause while I’m trying to use a map feature on the move. Is there any way to make the Pause option only appear when I’m standing still? Or at least make it smaller?
  • Send Beacon Text is a great option but I don’t need to see it permanently. If I choose not to send one, I’d like to be able to clear it from the screen and claim back the space for my map.
  • Using the Re-center button seems to change the zoom level of my screen. I often want to set a new zoom level, which causes the map to move slightly off centre. I then want to click re-center with the zoom set to my new preference. That seems not to be possible now. The zoom level appears to automatically reset / change when I click re-center.

Trivial:

  • Record button shows as a triangle. For me, at least, a triangle icon has always represented ‘play’ and a circle icon represents ‘record’. It seems odd to press a triangle when I want to record.
  • Heat maps and my path recorded so far both appear in blue. It’s hard to distinguish between them. Any reason we can’t have them in different colours, please?

Hello @johanvee - thank you for leaving such detailed feedback on this feature! We have passed it to the team internally :)

The pause button is a nightmare for cyclists. Everyone I've asked agrees the button only brings trouble and annoyance. We almost never have a reason to press pause. The button should be labeled "self-dstruct" because that's it's true function to cyclists. I've lost countless portions of rides by the easiness of hitting this button. If I sound annoyed, it's because I am. Version after version has only made the button more prominent on the screen. I'm honestly baffled to know why someone believes there is a valid use cases when the app is in cycling mode.

Where is the option to use the new screen interface? I had the new interface for a few days and now it’s back to the old interface after updating yesterday.

I'll add a little bit more to that recording screen of the new design: there's a rather frustrating issue on Android (Android 16, Pixel 9 Pro) where every time you stop on a bike ride, the ride pauses, and then you start again: the map unlocks from the North position.

Because the GPS is always wonky, and I live in a city with a North/South/East/West grid, I always have my map on recordings locked to the North position. The update keeps taking me out of that when it auto starts. I then have to re-set the orientation of the map every time. It's throws me off a lot when I'm trying to navigate the city 😞

Overall I do like the new design though!

How do I go back to the old interface? I hate the new one.  It's annoying enough to make me consider dropping my subscription again. 🫤

Yup, re-center zoom is absolutely worst, having custom scale is crucial feature, please fix asap.

I've lost recordings lately due to the pause button. I've noticed that the large pause button, is right under the fingerprint reader. So when i open the phone, say to check the map in strava, I can accidentally pause the session.

Btw, there’s no ‘gear’ icon to control display settings when recording, screen started dimming and locking  on iphone and no there’s no way to toggle always on anymore. Now the app is UTTERLY USELESS!
