I somehow clicked okay to move to use of a one-time password to log in, but it is less convenient and requires more steps.
how do I switch back? There is no longer an option to change password in settings, only change email -- and I want to keep the same email.
Thanks

Hello @rjameson and everyone else who has the same question - if you wish to opt out of OTC, this can be handled by our Support team. The Community Hub is for general questions and information while our Support team will handle questions that require account access.
If you do not currently have an open support tickethere’s how to submit one. If you have trouble with our online form, you can send an email to support@strava.zendesk.com.
If we contact them will they allow us to log in with a password without having to decline the code everytime?
Yes! You can opt out of using OTC and revert back to password login. The OTC option will still be an option on the webpage menu but you will just click on ‘Use password instead’ so just be careful not to click on OTC again…!
Mine seemed reset, then when I tried to add my password it says its wrong. I use a password manager so thats not possible, so I tried the “Forgot password” link and that just put me in a loop where the page just kept trying to send me a one time code again.
I don’t really see what Strava is trying to achieve here… User friendliness, no… Security wise, email OTP only addresses compromised/guessed/bute-force-hacked passwords. Email based OTP is the least secure OTP method around: If a bad actor gets access to your email account they get direct access to your Strava account. Of course this also applies to old fashioned passwords, that can be reset by “forgot password”, but while Strava spent time and resources on implementing a new routine, why not do it properly? Authenticator apps are common now, so why not use TOTP? Or passkeys, which by now is supported by most modern phones plus desktop browsers.
I would suggest the Strava team to consider adding Passkey login method. This method is way much safer *and* way more user friendly than email OTC method. An email OTC login should be last resort if an end user is somehow locked out.
This is so stupid! As someone said above: Strava is not that important. Log in with a password is way enough. I want that possibility back! I don’t have time to read through 3 pages of support inquiries, but I just assume that Strava has chosen not to give us this option anymore.
This was the most useless dumb idea Strava ever had. We are already here logging in we HAVE a password...Why would we want to then go check email for a secret code? Guess what we need to do to check email? Oh right enter another password….So... did you make it easier or double difficulty? Sometimes Strava needs to learn to leave well enough alone. I have not renewed this year & have asked about this months ago...Really Strava get over it…... “KISS” you know what it means?
Boy, I see many others are having issues with this REALLY BAD IDEA STRAVA did. It is really sad they won’t address the issue and let users decide how they would like to log on. It takes me several times to get logged on due to the time limit. Maybe they can increase the time to submit the code to 3 minutes, as their server runs slow at times and my email provider runs slow at time.
As it is, this is a really bad idea on STRAVA’s part and frankly, I am glad I did not subscribe!!!!
i really need to figure out how to login with a password. has this been fixed?
requiring a code sent to my email requires me to also login to my office account which in itself requires a user name and password and then waiting for the email server to update which takes a while in many cases. and then i need to make sure i log out of my office account because this provides full access to OneDrive, Word, Excel, etc. this is by far less secure by making me access another account and absolutely stupid!
I was forced to enable OTP this morning when I decided to reconnect Suunto to Strava. Now, my browser logs me out after 15-20 minutes, and this is WITH “Remember Me” checked, and I’m stuck waiting 45-60 seconds for an email to arrive…. Looks like I picked the wrong day to come back to Strava. Man, it was so different in 2014 when I came here….
I use also an older iphone to track longer outdoor activities. (Large battery and easier to recharge than iwatch) The new poorly introduced 2factor (which is in fact a 1factor) method does no longer allow me to login on older versions of iPhone. I normally don’t complain but this is for a paying customer more than irritating. Should have either a sms or Authenticator introduced instead of sending a code to the already known/compromised email address. Strava fix this.
Complete trash. User since 2011 and this kind of behaviour makes me want to take the only action I have available - cancelling my subscription. Only then will they listen and then I won’t care anymore. When I’m up for renewal and this isn’t fixed - 👋.
I’m thankful I haven’t accidentally clicked on this yet. It’s really not a suitable option for some of us and could effectively block access to Strava. My most recent logon was after a crash whilst out for a walk. I can remember my password, what I wouldn’t have been able to do is nip back home 30km, check e-mail, nip 30km back and resume my walk. Not everyone uses e-mail on their phones (or wants to). Let people turn this off.
Add me to the list of annoyed customers. I get having 2Faq to enhance security. But once I verify my device, I shouldn’t have to enter codes every time. And there should be a way to go back. Super annoying for us laptop users.
This is disappointing. It delays the login process and sometimes the code doesn’t arrive on time.
The support chat bot is stupid. It told me to send a a request with 5-page CV (likely to confirm if it’s me) to the help desk email. But you can also simply raise a request through https://support.strava.com/hc/en-us/requests/new if you are connected. I hope they will give me back the password login soon.
IT’S BEEN MORE THAN 8 MONTHS SINCE THE OP MADE THIS REQUEST TO ALLOW A CHANGE BACK TO A NORMAL LOGIN WITHOUT A CODE. IS ANYONE ON STRAVA STAFF READING THIS THREAD???
I just spent 10 minutes trying to login, email codes were delayed to my email enough that I couldn’t get the code before the 1 minute time out. I finally got one code to make it just in the nick of time for me to login. ugggh!
Please remember the Strava Community Hub is mostly just what it says, the Strava Community wherein your fellow Strava users try to help with problems. We can try to escalate issues for you but if you want to contact Strava directly then that is a Strava Support ticket. @Bryant Can you help escalate this further?
As @BryanC mentioned, If you wish to Opt-out of the One Time Code login or if you are having trouble receiving your login code please submit a request by following the instructions here.
