We made a club challenge that would include rides done only outdoors. And it works perfectly, it doesn't include all rides on the trainer using Zwift, MyWhoosh etc. The problem is when someone rides on the trainer using only a bikecomputer, e.g. Garmin. Strava treats it as indoor cycling but at the same time also includes it in the challenge with outdoor rides. There is no separate category Indoor Cycling, so it is included in Ride not Virtual Ride. The solution would be to add indoor cycling to the types of sports?!

It's a shame that this won't be prioritized. It makes the gear tracking feature inconvenient enough that I don't rely on it, which makes it pretty useless. My indoor bike and outdoor bike are two separate bikes, but I have to manually change it every time. I don't want inaccurate mileage on my outdoor bike.
Adding my support for this idea. I have my bike added as equipment and have it as a default for rides but then when I ride and sync a Peloton ride, Strava can't distinguish so I have to manually remove my bike every time. Alternatively, if I removed my bike as the default, I'd have to manually add my bike for every outdoor ride
It's such a simple change… Don't understand why Strava resists
It's particularly frustrating because Strava has so many different types of cycling rides: Ride, E-Bike Ride, Virtual Ride, Mountain Bike Ride, Gravel Ride, E-Mountain Bike Ride… So it would be so easy to add another and the resistance to a stationary bike without some weird distinction for Virtual Rides is arbitrary and feels more like a eff-you too people who use stationary bikes
I'll point out that the Garmin app was able to handle this
