Up until recently, when I shared a run, the image with stats would retain its aspect ratio. This seems to be no longer the case (in the last week).

For example, here is my latest run, ready to share;

However, when I post or even save the image, it is cropped to the portrait aspect ratio.

This has only happened recently, as I have been sharing in the same way every time. Can anyone shed any light on this?

I am honestly not expecting them to ever actually fix this. There have been a lot of unfulfilled open ended promises, something else delivered entirely, and an unjustified attempt to close the thread as resolved without addressing the complaints. I expect they will wait until people get tired of complaining and the thread falls far enough out of recent memory that they got off the hook.

The fact that this thread now has over 100 replies surely shows how much we want the 1:1 option back. Not everyone wants the portrait option for tiktok or stories, some of us still prefer sharing to the grid on instagram/fb for tracking runs.

Garmin will be my app of choice for sharing to socials for the upcoming 20-week block leading to the Palermo marathon in Italy this November.

Fingers crossed the Strava bosses fix this by event day!

I also have had to move to Garmin for now. Removing important features was careless and poorly thought out from the product team, however the real kicker has been the stonewalling from Strava. It’s been 4 months and more than 20 app releases and yet we have heard nothing of any consequence regarding fixing this. We’ve gotten the run around and attempts to pretend the issue is solved by something else nobody asked for. Opening Strava to have it ask me to renew my subscription every day is pretty comical considering they removed one of the only things I was using the app for and have refused to fix it, or even properly address it/commit to fixing it:

Yup, today is Day 1 of a 20-week block that leads to my marathon in Italy, so I'll use both Strava/Garmin to track all the data possible but will only be using the Garmin for sharing to social media. THEY still offer a 1:1 ratio option for neat & tidy posts! 👀

Please bring back the 1:1 aspect ratio map image to share. I find I now always try to share a map of an activity in Strava, only to find that key parts of the map are overlaid by the fade to black. The old style was perfect for sharing to Instagram to just adding to a Google Photos album. The new style seems only somehow tailored for Instagram Stories, but even then it is faulty because the vignette obscures so much of the map. Please bring back the old sharing option!

+1 vote for at least having the old share option as an additional option, as opposed to just the 9:16

Still looking for a commitment here to fix the app sharing options

I found a “workaroud” by making a screenshot from the Strava app while image is not yet cropped and then cropping the image part - at least on the iPhone it works okayish, even though the image quality is lower.

Strava, please get rid of the cropping, it does not make sense!

Man it would be super if after 5 months of their customer begging them to fix this and give us something useful, they listened in any capacity and either added something that costs them nothing, or at least made a real statement on the matter

Hello community. I hope all good. I’m strugling whith supportteam for months, since May 2025.
At that time, Dev Team promoted a feature to have more data, or should I say, more visible data in the photos we publish in social media. Should be a good thing.

But data is covering most of the picture. So, sometimes there is a nice landscape, ou the cyclists group and Strava Data, simply cover most of the photo

.

I suggested them go back the orinal format, Strava logo above and KM, Time and Altimetry below, so the image would be clear in the center. Maybe Strava could keep both formats, old and new, so the user may choose.

See, I use data the check and improve my perfromance, the point is specifically to pictures we publish in social media with strava data.

Check OLD and CURRENT pictures.
A person here advised me about this thread, so I’m contibuting to have settings back as it was.

But How can @support see all these msgs and take an action ?

What a relief to found this thread, I thought I was the only one with this annoyance. I prefered a square image as well to share in my normal instagram-feed, together with some pics … now I take screenshots and crop the image … to much hussle for my convinience :-)

I hope for an update/fix soon

Hello Everyone,

I've just received an update regarding the new sharing feature and the user feedback we've been collecting on it. I wanted to be as transparent as possible with you all.

Unfortunately, at this time, there are no immediate plans to change the current functionality.
The team is aware of the feedback and the specific points raised, particularly the involuntary triggering of the sharing screen. I understand this isn't the update you were hoping for, and I want to acknowledge the frustration you've expressed.

I assure you that the feedback provided in this thread and others are being reviewed. The team takes all of this input seriously, even when a change isn't made right away.

We'll continue to monitor the situation and your feedback. I appreciate your passion for the product and for taking the time to share your thoughts. It truly helps us understand your needs.

Thank you for your patience.

So, "we know everyone hates it, but we arnt adding the 1:1 image sharing back again"…

At least Garmin is getting more product placement for every run I post recently! Ridiculous move and nothing more than a "middle finger" to paying subscribers like me that fund this app.

Luckily my subscription was about to renew when this issue started. I stopped using Strava. I just use Apple Fitness and HealthFit if I want to export a photo (in its original size and ratio) with my workout data.

So,  it looks like Strava won’t rollback this feature in the next future.

To be honest, it doesn't really matter right now. I've been taking screenshots instead of using the newer sharing feature. As long as you don't mess it up too, I'll stay away from this horrible sharing option. However, I'll be careful to avoid auto-renewing my subscription.

I appreciate the response @Bryant but the picturing sharing and how it looks is horrible. I’m sharing through Coros now, and others through Garmin. Strava is being very silly, losing money, and doesn’t really say why the pic is tiny and covered up, when every other platform you can customize what the pic looks like. I’m not a subscriber anyway but it’s just a baffling decision. Certainly doesn’t matter in the scheme of things, but why even have the ability to share when it looks so bad.

That’s a sad information. I don’t know how a very simple rollback can’t be done. Evaluating other tools ...

I dont get it. You change things, make things worse, then apologise for making them worse, but state you arent changing them.. so the app will slow get crappier and crappier over time.. Doesnt seem like a great strategy to me.. and I have noticed the app getting cluttered and cluncky, so I say you strategy is working.

I’m out. It was a good 7 years or so. A product that actively makes itself less useful and refuses to listen to user feedback on the matter does not deserve my business or my money.

It’s very strange that this isn’t being prioritized, given that when I sort all 2,192 topics on the forum, this topic has the third most replies. To add insult to injury, the topic is marked as “solved”. How hard could it really be to bring back the original square aspect ratio as one of the sharing options? This doesn’t instill much confidence/loyalty in Strava.

This seems to be one of the most requested features by the Strava community. Why hasn’t it been prioritized? How come you don't prioritize that? This "strategy" might be a nail in the coffin for Strava..

What makes it even more dreadful is that this option was taken from the community without any reasonable excuse.

Yeah, the reply here basically translates to "Strava knows you want the older 1:1 ratio back, but we don't care, so suck it up and move on" 🤷‍♂️

I've been using Garmin to post my training runs to Instgram and it really is just so much neater with the square format.

Posting as insta stories or, heaven-forbid, tiktok "content" (ugh) isn't ideal for runners and/or coaches who want to look back at older runs to see improvements & progress.

Oh well. Nice to know how (un)appreciated the customer feedback is 👀

I’d encourage everyone replying here to add your feedback on the Strava page on the App Store of your choice.  Given their effective acknowledgement that they do not care what the users/paying customers want or need, leave them a review and rating with how that makes you feel as a customer.

It is unbeliable. Check the original photo and  strava shared photo. Besides cover the picture with ride data, that could be in the cornes as it was before change, in additional, Strava darkness it. Completely mess.
