API Agreement Update & How Data Appears on 3rd Party Apps

Updated on Nov. 20 We wanted to provide some additional context around the changes to our API Agreement and the impact for our users and developers. We currently anticipate these changes will impact less than .1% of applications and proactively notified the majority of those affected last week. Enhanced Privacy and User ControlPrivacy and user control are at the forefront of our platform. As a result, we are committed to evolving our API practices as regulatory requirements and user expectations shift. This includes  the decision to limit the ability of a user’s data to be displayed by third-party apps in ways the user may not expect. Specifically, we want to thoughtfully address situations where users connect to a third-party app and are unaware that their data is being surfaced not just for their own use and visibility, but also to other users (for example, in a public feed or heatmap). The latest API changes address this scenario and provide a more consistent framework for Strava us

Athlete Limits

I have a list of applications we publish with Strava integration features and a lot of them have reached the athlete limits. I have filled out the form multiple times over the past few weeks and have not received a response or an update. Is there any way to expedite these athlete limit requests and make a mass update to multiple client Ids at once for those of us with White Label applications?

Strava API: activities/streams API not returning latlng

Hello, the following API appears to no longer be returning latlng.  I believe I ran this same URL a few weeks ago and did receive latlng in the results.“https://www.strava.com/api/v3/activities/<ACTIVITY_ID>/streams?access_token=<ACCESS_TOKEN>&keys=time,latlng&key_by_type=true” When I convert the response to json, the structure of the response appears as follows (I put in the “...”){'distance': {'data': [0.0, 0.0, 9.2, ... 4438.1, 4440.6], 'series_type': 'distance', 'original_size': 246, 'resolution': 'high'}, 'time': {'data': [0, 1, 10, ... 1550, 1551], 'series_type': 'distance', 'original_size': 246, 'resolution': 'high'}} Previously, the response string included a section that was structured as follows (but with actual lat/lon pairs):'latlng': {'data': [[0.0, 0.0], [0.0, 0.0], [0.0, 0.0] … [0.0, 0.0], [0.0, 0.0]}... Is this a bug, did I miss an API change, or perhaps did I change something in my code without realizing it? Thank you in advance for any assistance.

Pause button on Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro

Hello, after Samsung firmware update in December 2024, I’m not able to use the button for pause the activity on my Galaxy Watch 5 Pro anymore. Its necessary to click on screen for pause, which is uncomfortable (because of gloves, etc). Do you think, you can reair that?Before the Samsung Galaxy Watch firmware update, it worked properly.

Hi In the webpage, fitness and freshness is retrieved from here https://www.strava.com/fitness/{athlete_id}?range=3months&type=&source=combined What is the equivalent endpoint in the API to retrieve that information?Thanks

Express my frustration as we have reached our athlete limit of 999

Dear Strava Support Team,I am writing to express my frustration as we have reached our athlete limit of 999. Despite my efforts to contact support, I have not received any assistance, and my clients are now experiencing issues connecting, resulting in a 403 error.I had previously attempted to communicate with Strava before reaching this limit, but was advised to wait until we did so. Now that we are at capacity, the lack of response is incredibly frustrating and not user-friendly.Please assist us in resolving this matter as soon as possible.Thank you.

Driving Directions on Strava is broken?

Hi,I am referring to Driving Directions – Strava Support.My route starts from Home, goes through various places, and then ends back at Home.When I follow the instructions in the above link, my navigation app (Google Maps) basically just says I am Home, because the directions are only from the ‘Start location’ to the ‘End location’, which are both Home.Google Maps supports multiple locations. Please could the feature be fixed, such that the multi-point route is also reflected on the Navigation Apps?Many thanks.

Get Advanced Metrcis via API

Hi,I would like to integrate and display advanced metrics for Subscription users in our application, such as Fitness Score, Relative Effort, Training Log, etc., to provide a fitness summary, send notifications, predictions, and more.However, I couldn’t find a clear endpoint for this in the documentation. It seems like I might need to retrieve all activities, count their relative effort (which appears to be tied to the `suffer_score`), and then manually calculate the values. But I would expect there to be an easier method.Could you please clarify if there is a more straightforward way to achieve this?Thanks for your help.

Can increase athlete limit from 999 to 200k ?

Hi Strava team, We have  the 999 Athlete limit and have tried contacting support to request to increase it 200k but we didnt get any update for almost 1month now.Is there a separate contact form or method to get this number increased?Thanks.

Personal Bests / Best Efforts in API

Hello,I’m trying to find an API endpoint to get my best effort times on different run distances (1K, 5K, HM etc.), but I can’t find a sensible way to do it. I understand that I could, in theory, go through each detailed activity, but that would be a hassle. There must be a more efficient way of doing this?

At the time of setting up my api application, I added 1 in Number of athletes allowed to connect and Number of athletes currently connected. How can I change this. As I am trying to use the app its giving me error - Error 401: Limit of connected athletes exceeded.

Athlete V3 stats API all_run_totals and others are incorrect

Since last week I noticed that the all_*_totals (eg. all_run_totals) have reset on the API to start counting from 0 even though the Strava Portal clearly indicates a much higher number.  On Strava portal my all time running stats are 113However the API https://developers.strava.com/docs/reference/#api-Athletes-getStats no returns only my most recent run count"all_run_totals": { "count": 1, "distance": 5630.0, "moving_time": 2473, "elapsed_time": 2519, "elevation_gain": 86.63724517822266}, How do I get this corrected?

I can't log in to Swagger Playground

Question regarding Streams API response

Hi!I’m trying to reverse engineer the exact split information from the streams data in the Strava API.  It works OK for most cases, but I’ve noticed that there’s often times a discrepancy between the length of the distance/time array and the exact moving time (ie. the `moving_time` field).  In some cases, the streams data is wildly off.For example, all of the streams for one of my activities have length 2316.  But, the moving time for the activity is 2295.  The distance stream ends with a distance 6589.7, but the `distance` field has value 6586.9.  Is there a reason for the discrepancy in streams data? Rate Limit Increase Reply Turn Around Time

Hi everyone! I just joined the forums and recently released an iOS app that allows users to make photos with their running / walking / workout stats: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/run-story/id6737940528I have almost 300 users and am still under the rate limit at the moment. I submitted a request to increase a couple weeks ago before officially launching but never heard back, so followed up with another email today.Does anyone know the typical turn around time and if requests are accepted? Would love to make sure I have a little buffer so users don’t have a bad experience.Thanks!

Manage athlete limits

Hello Strava Community, My application has reached the 999-athlete connection limit, and I’ve already emailed developers@strava.com to request an increase. However, the limit is causing errors for my users, and it’s taking some time to get a response from Strava support. In the meantime, I’d like to disconnect some inactive athletes to make space for new users. Is there an endpoint or method available to remove specific athletes from the connected list? Thank you for any guidance!

I see on strava status there are problems.  We are facing problems submitting activities via API.  Normally this is very stable for years for us so we are pretty sure strava API has errors.  Anyone else seeing this?

Mismatch between Hikes elevation gain of Huawei and Strava

Hello!Today I recorded a Hike activity on my watch. I use Huawei GT5 Pro. For syncing with Strava I use 3rd party app called “Health Sync”.The problem is that the elevation gain measured by the watch is 1004,1m and in the Strava activity is 732m. Other thing I noticed is that the the route, built in Strava maps, shows gain of 721m.This makes me think that Strava uses the map of the file to determine the elevation gain and it is ignoring the data from the sync app. After all I am not sure if this data is actually provided.All of my hikes has the elevation gain compromised. Here are some useful links:The route: https://www.strava.com/routes/3295815139449377184 The Strava activity: https://www.strava.com/activities/13169086763 Huawei Activity .zip file (attached)

How long does it take support to reply?

I emailed Strava Support two weeks ago and haven’t heard anything from them, even after sending a follow-up message this week.  Is there any other way to talk with a human?  The AI bot is completely useless.

TCX upload stopped working.

I have been uploading tcx files for a while and it worked without problems but recently they have stopped working with the very useful “Error processing Data” message.Does anybody know what changed? Or does anybody have an idea on how to debug this?The tcx file is still well formed and valid.
