Hi,

I'm looking for a way to have these statistics included with my runs on strava.

I use strava to record my running and view statistics which is great.

First I started using the strava Apple Watch app but it didn't include these extra statistics. I know for example Garmin watches can sync these data to strava running activities, but don't want to buy a new watch and wondered if this is also possible with my Apple Watch. I found out that the workout app on iOS 16.1 and Apple Watch 9.1 includes this data, but not all data is synced to strava .

Is this already on the roadmap or hopefully a good idea to add :)?

Kind regards

Martijn

In a year and a half this has gotten from "collecting Kudos" to "under consideration?" That's it? There were 53,000,000 Apple Watches sold worldwide in 2022 vs something like 2,000,000 cycle computers. The 'killer app' for the Apple Watch platform is health and fitness. You don't think it is important--critical--to have tight integration? Seriously, this should have long since happened.

Come on @jaredgab, give them a break, they’ve been working hard on Strava for dogs.

Due to this issue, I have now switched to another app to deal with my workout data, downgraded my Strava subscription and using it just for the social aspect of it.

UPDATE FROM STRAVA:

Hello and thank you to everyone who has added their comments and feedback to this topic.

First, we want to say that we appreciate you all reaching out on this matter and sharing your thoughts. We absolutely understand the value of having as much of your activity data on Strava as possible, and how many of our athletes use an Apple Watch to record that data. We do want to let you know that we are committed to improving both the Strava Watch app experience and the integration we have with the Apple Workout app (Healthkit).

Our team is pushing forward to streamline and improve the user experience with the Strava watch app, making recording and syncing activities easier for athletes. We are also investigating how best to bring over more data from Healthkit to Strava, particularly with the releases of watchOS 9 and watchOS 10.

We will continue to work towards these goals and monitor this thread. Please be on the lookout for improvements to the Apple Watch experience in the coming year.

I spent over $800 on Apple Watch Ultra 2. I have my watch synced with Strava so that every workout I do via my watch app (cycling, running, elliptical, stairs, etc.) gets automatically synced with Starva.

For reasons that I find very strange Strava doesn't port all the metrics.

Examples of data missing from Strava that is recoded in native iOS app (Finess)

  1. Running (Workout > Outdoor Run)
    • Cadence
    • Average Power
    • Vertical Oscillation
    • Ground Contact Time
    • Stride Length
  2. Stair Stepper (synced using NFC between LifeFitness Stair Stepper and iWatch)
    • Flights Climbed
    • Elevation Gain

Listed above are just the two cases I have encountered in a month of using iWatch where strava fails abysmally. Case 1 lists iWatch metrics, and case 2 lists third party metrics (LifeFitness Stair Stepper) which aren't getting synced to Strava.  The missing metrics in case 2 gives me a chuckle everytime I think about it - How can Starva fail to capture "Flights Climbed" in Stair-Stepper workout?

That's an unacceptable response and position @Jane. The Premium signup page clearly states "Import your HR and power data" as a feature, and yet Stava continues to delay and make excuses rather than provide what is promised for users of the Apple Watch.  I just cancelled my renewal on Premium! Should Strava ever decide to actually honor what you advertise I *might* sign up again!

@Jane

Look out for it in the next YEAR?

I have to say I am shocked at how slow Strava has been to react. Apple Watch could record power from mid 2023 and Strava would have had access to beta versions of the software long prior to that.

This is a fundamental integration - one of the widest used sports devices and the biggest athlete platform can’t add one or two fields to its import.

I have serious concerns if Strava’s software engineers can’t make this change in such a long amount of time. What has caused the development process to become so glacial and unable to react?

It may be time to look for another platform.

@Jane , thanks for the update. It has taken long enough.
I do find your statement very disappointing. The bit with „we‘re looking into the HealthKit integration“ is an oxymoron. If you had, it takes about 5 minutes to work out what data to request from the API to get what people asked for into Strava.
Focus on the Strava watch app, I am sure you have data on that, and you can work out how many people use that vs how many people import their workouts through HealthKit. I suspect the number of Strava app users to be very low given how good the Apple Watch workout app has become. Hence, I think it‘s a lost cause and you’d be better off focusing those resources on a tighter integration with HealthKit if you want to retain value and subscribers for your phone app.
A timeline for next year is totally unacceptable for something that is seemingly so simple.

Well said, the Strava App (phone or watch ) is now superseded by the apple workout app that has what cyclists need.
It runs on the watch but uses the iPhone as a monitor to see all the data while cycling.

I would suggest

Step1. Make cadence and power available when importing from apple workouts

Step2 if you are interested in athletes using your app for recording workouts rework it from ground up. Some competitors like Cadence do what you are supposed to do and there are margin of improvements

Well I am very disappointed @Jane  with your information.
Honestly I paid for my annual Strava over my free Strava JUST so I could see my cycle powermeter data…

Truly I’m saddened..

Question here is why haven’t they done it already, is this a commercial or technical issue……..

Geez you guys gotta figure this out.

It is ridiculous that in the year 2024 Strava does not import ALL data my power meter records to Apple Fitness.  Strava should be importing/capturing Power, Cadence (both average and and times in Power Training Zones.  Not sure why this doesn't seem to be a priority.

I wonder if this would work... So, as part of WatchOS 10.2, you can send a Training Peak workout to your Apple Watch... This workout, I understand it properly records power meter data directly from the Apple Watch connected to your bike's power meter through bluetooth. What I would think might work, is that once that workout is reflected in Training Peaks (including power meter data), then you can download the workout as a .fit file from Training Peaks, and the manually upload it to Strava. I wonder if then, the power meter data (properly processed by Training Peaks), would then be also reflected in Strava. Could someone try this workaround to see if it works?

It's definitely not what we as users should do... I agree with most posts here; this feature should already be implemented, no reason for it.
