Hi,

I'm looking for a way to have these statistics included with my runs on strava.

I use strava to record my running and view statistics which is great.

First I started using the strava Apple Watch app but it didn't include these extra statistics. I know for example Garmin watches can sync these data to strava running activities, but don't want to buy a new watch and wondered if this is also possible with my Apple Watch. I found out that the workout app on iOS 16.1 and Apple Watch 9.1 includes this data, but not all data is synced to strava .

Is this already on the roadmap or hopefully a good idea to add :)?

Kind regards

Martijn

UPDATE FROM STRAVA (March 18, 2024)

Hello and thank you to everyone who has added their comments and feedback to this topic.

First, we want to say that we appreciate you all reaching out on this matter and sharing your thoughts. We absolutely understand the value of having as much of your activity data on Strava as possible, and how many of our athletes use an Apple Watch to record that data. We do want to let you know that we are committed to improving both the Strava Watch app experience and the integration we have with the Apple Workout app (Healthkit).

Our team is pushing forward to streamline and improve the user experience with the Strava watch app, making recording and syncing activities easier for athletes. We are also investigating how best to bring over more data from Healthkit to Strava, particularly with the releases of watchOS 9 and watchOS 10.

We will continue to work towards these goals and monitor this thread. Please be on the lookout for improvements to the Apple Watch experience in the coming year.

@Sapo74  wait here .. so your using the Cadance iPhone app and its companion AW app instead of Apple workout . View that onscreen , then upon done it syncs to Strava all data (gps, health HR, and from powermeter cadence and watts) .

Apple health gets updated as well I take it?
if so, I’m confused why that app can do it and Apple exercise can’t.

It is absolutely insane that this function has not been added yet. Come on, Strava.

Still no update on this feature? Is Strava trying to discourage Apple Watch users from using Strava? The fact that no ETA is given makes me suspect this feature isn't even in their development pipeline?

How is this taking this long? It's been more than a year and a half since this was proposed, and the lack of data being uploaded from Apple Watch is getting worse and worse as more and more data is tracked from Apple Watch. Strava needs to keep up to date with important tracking info. You're able to upload this from Garmin, and yet not from Apple Watch? The leading Smart Watch on the market (maybe not leading for fitness, but you get the idea)? People are paying expensive monthly subscriptions through Strava to get a great fitness tracking platform, but this is currently not the case. Yes technology keeps changing, but Strava is not staying up to date with the latest by any means.

A cycling activity? "Yeah no we don't track Power from the most sold Smart Watch..."

A triathlon upload activity from Apple? "Yeah we don't know what that is either..."

An indoor cycling activity? Strava says "yeah no you can't manually add in the mileage, just keep that blank and find a workaround..."

Strava, please, focus on what's truly important, and stay relevant.

+1 for power readings now that Apple Watch tracks them and they're a standard Strava metric

Hello Strava programmers ..
I’m still waiting on power being read from my Apple watch via the crank power meter.  166w avg is 39% more than the 119w avg estimated!!

That’s not insignificant.

As an AW exclusive user these days, missing data fields for all activity data collection is infuriating.  I’m sick of waiting and let my 10+ year subscription expire.  I know there are work arounds to get all metrics to Strava, but this shouldn’t be necessary.   I’ve moved to Healthfit where I get all the metrics, AND dark mode.

@Jane How did it take 18 months for Strava to consider including these basic integrations? I’ll check back in a year.

TRP

I totally agree with RickL. I let a 10+ year paid subscription lapse for the same reason. I have been using Health Fit, and it works great. I suspect Strava has some sort of sweetheart deal with Garmin.

Pathetic!!

Another converted to HealthFit, where all data exports as intended.

Whats worse is you can then export the same workout from HealthFit to Strava and the power data recorded by the native Apple workout app is preset in Strava. So from this it’s evident that the syncing of power data recorded via Apple Watch is switched off intentionally by Strava rather than something they can’t/haven’t implemented

Looked into HealthFit, moved there as well. HealthFit is amazing, all the cadence and speed data I want is imported the way I have been patiently waiting for Strava to do. Once off app purchase for HealthFit and it is a lot cheaper than the Strava subscription. Really a pity that Strava has done nothing to address their shortcomings when it comes to AW data.

so @RickL  , @TRP  , @Damo  ,  @BrettGD  all now using AW fitness, then import into HealthFit 🤷‍♂️

Hey @Jane  if this the case, then seriously why is Strava not allowing it directly?  Is there a conflict of interest or other business matter keeping it from happening?

I completely understand if there are deals preventing Apple’s Data imports.

If there is a conflict of interest or a deal with Garmin/coros, Strava should just come clean and tell it like it is and deal with the consequences.

If this was due to a deal that prevents Strava from tighter integration with Apple, I am not sure how I’d look at Strava management’s tenure if they’re not able to integrate with the world’s most sold smartwatch…

Meanwhile, I cancelled Strava as well. This is ridiculous.

I’m out. I’ve migrated to using the AW for almost all my activities because it’s just so convenient and this is a deal breaker. Premium cancelled.
