I have been using a segment for 16 years to track my performance and done over 1600 climbs on it.  Strava have deleted it, including all this history, and there is no similar segment.

Is there a way back from this.

What I would do is just go ahead and try to re-create that segment.  If you rode it a bunch of times, you probably have a good idea where the start and end points are.  Make a new segment just like the old one and the leaderboard will be populated with all the historic info since day one, for you and everyone else.

I had to do this a few times with segments I won KOM’s on and the thing was deleted… probably by the original creator who also had the KOM and got angry that I took it away from him.

Thanks.  Will give it a go

I think they (Strava), in the last effort for “improve” segments, automatically set some segment as “private”, despite the creators made as “public”, apparently those nobody put in favorites never.

Personally I have no problems in loose around 70 koms after the duplicates cleanup, but with this movement I lost around 600-700 koms all done “blind mode” (without put in favorites but interesting for me) and obviously I can't  redo all this work or ask the creators to view in his created segment section to put one by one on public setting again.

Really bad move from Strava.

I wanted to reach out and share my experience regarding the disappearance of our regular club race circuit segment. After noticing the segment had vanished, we recreated it, but unfortunately, it disappeared again. Determined to resolve the issue, I located a support link and worked through the process with the bot until I successfully submitted a support ticket.

Following that, I had an email conversation with a team member who was incredibly helpful. Thanks to their assistance, the segment has now been reinstated.

But this is good for one single or a little couple of segments, not for hundred 😅

I find this wholesale deletion of segments by strava deeply disturbing - I had 4 or 5 pages of koms disappear as a result of this action and recreating segments they deleted shouldn’t be our problem. Strava created this problem, why should it be the anthlete’s problem to restore data Strava deleted??? Undoubtedly, Strava relied on AI to achieve this and put way too much faith in the criteria they used for segment deletion. Clearly, seeing how so many people are disgruntled about lost (& legitimate) segments, it’s clear that Strava really f*ck’d up on this and should work harder to restore what they deleted. At worst, Strava could have proactively advised  in advance so athletes could easily recreate their lost efforts - especially subscribers.  I’ve been a paying subscriber for several years and have never had a reason to consider quitting until now. Bad move!

Unfortunately recreating the segment doesn’t have much use. I tried that and after a few weeks they were deleted again. So now we have a situation that old segments with bad GPS and worse start/stop positions are fixed forever and there is no chance to replace them with exact segments. And that’s only because the bad segments were there first and thus collected a bunch of likes that obviously were the main criteria for keeping instead of quality.

@nicky11  sorry to drag you in here but I saw it might be in your power to help - could you please? 🙂
