Mate, just because you are OCD and don't like "clogging up" your Strava doesn't redefine the entire categorisation of sports. Go have a look at any governing body that manages sporting events and running and walking are entirely separate.
And anyway, you are missing the entire point as this proposed change won't make an iota of difference to you as you mark everything as a run. This is for people who DO want to have a "clogged" Strava by have a clear difference between their sports and challenges appropriately. People who would like to achieve 100km running in a month AND 50km walking for example.
I completely agree, run and walk should be seperated!
As part of the run everyday January challenge I had set myself, I had also wanted to complete the 100k for the month. To then realise it now included walks has really put a damper on it.
I hope Strava review this and put it back to how it was, and also bring back to walk 50k!!
At least change the name of the challenge if this starts including Walks!
Create a walk challenge and/or a Run-Walk challenge but please don't impact the Run challenge!
Please rectify this as this is not great for an App that started with Running!
Thank you the good people of Strava, but keep your runners happy, they are more likely to be your paid subscribers!
Let's have Cycling and Escooters in the same category. Running is Not walking they are two different sports! Cycling fast and cycling slow are not 2 different sports!
I joined this forum specifically to have a moan about this change. Walking is NOT running and it devalues the badge. It’s a challenge for me to meet the 100k run, but not when it includes walking. I ‘get’ the inclusivity aspects, but if people want to record their walks as runs that’s their choice. This change impacts people who like to keep completely different forms of exercise separate. PLEASE CHANGE IT BACK STRAVA. Plus while I’m on it, why reduce the 50k walk challenge to 30k? 30k is too low. Why not have different distances.
Same, the only reason I am here!
Wouldn't it be better to include more walking challenges in order to be more inclusive rather than lumping walking in with running? I value running and walking as separate sports - they are not the same. I have removed myself from the February 'running' challenges as there seems little point to it now. Also, why has the walking challenge been reduced to 30km instead of 50km? If someone feels that they want the 100km challenge for walking, why not create a 100km walking challenge instead of ruining the running challenge and the 50km walking challenge? It makes no sense! Are you listening Strava? Why no response to the pages of comments?
I’ve been a member since 2019 and a paid subscriber since 2020, my renewal is due on the 20th Feb and it won’t be renewed if this isn’t solved.
seems that no one is paying attention to our messages and this is getting me very annoyed.
Hi,
To be heard about the previous idea : "✓ Run Challenges - Allow Walk to count as well "
So much person want to come back. Everybody agree with walking is not running. it breaks motivation. It's more difficult to run 100km than walk 100km.
Please, Strava, listen the population want to have run 100km challenge for only running.
Well said Hubert12, I’ve removed myself from all running challenges and also questioning my long standing paid subscription from 2020. It’s not a cheap app!
I agree, walking should NOT be counted towards the 100km running badge, I changed all my January walking activities to ‘Golf’ so they wouldn’t count (I don’t play golf, that’s how ridiculous I think this change is). Not renewing my membership either as I can’t see the value in it anymore.
Just seen this info I also wondered where the 200k and 300k challenge had gone, think it’s time to just scrap my Strava subscription and just use my Garmin app🙁
Cannot believe that as February rolls around this still hasn't been fixed
"Clubs on Strava"
@Scout - can you explain why you ignore your customers? You took a suggestion that had a whopping 6 kudos and added "walks" to the running challenges. You have suggestions with many, many times that number of kudos with extremely valid reasoning behind them requesting you remove walks from running challenges, both from walkers and runners, yet you have totally ignored them. You went ahead and included walks again for the February running challenges. What are you thinking? Can you explain ANY reason why Strava would stick with this concept? What is our motivation to propose and "kudo" ideas when it is obvious you don't pay ANY attention to them. You provided this community hub, now it is time to live by it.
I think we need to separate running and walking as those are totally different activities and require absolutely different amount of training, commitment and body stressing. Not ignoring people with the special health conditions, I would say that they are different and there should be just more challenges and badges introduced. But running is running.
Why has waking been included in the running running challenge? There is a separate challenge for walking. This has spoilt the whole monthly challenge.
I agree, they were the main two challenges that motivated me. The only ones with a decent distance. I have set goals, it's just not quite the same though
So, drumroll, not only the 100km challenge is impacted but now any Run challenge includes walks. I mean ALL challenges even the branded one, so if I want and record it on strava my walk counts towards a run challenge. Or I don’t log my walk and can’t benefit from my paid subscription to assess my fitness. I think this is enough. Data transfer and cancellation it will be.
I am absolutely FUMING
The running distance challenge was very motivating for me to run more. However, now walking counts as a running activity, but treadmill running longer does. The running challenges should be for RUNNING of any type: road, trail, treadmill. And the walking challenges should be for walking. If there’s a request to make challenges that combine running and walking then that actually also sounds fun, but please restore the running distance challenges back to running. As far as I can tell, this is an app with a large number of runners, so I suspect I’m not alone in this. I’ve used Strava for a long time, but I’m seriously considering looking for a different app that will actually provide me running challenges if Strava won’t do so anymore. Thanks.
@Scout @Jane11 - are you people listening? How many more new posts asking to separate walk and run challenges are you going to have to merge with this one before you do something about it? You took an idea that had a whopping 6 kudos and ran with it, yet you seem to ignore this side of the discussion that has far more support? If you want us, the people who pay your paycheck, to feel like this community hub actually does something, you need to show us. As it stands, it sure looks like this forum is just a suggestion box you never bother to open.
Hi Jane, How about an update on this? It has been three weeks since you shared it with 'the appropriate Team'... Thanks & kind regards, Sergio
Running is not walking, and vice versa. Please separate the challenges again. Walking should not count as running in running challenges!! Why even have a walking challenge if walking counts for running? Please listen to the followers on this app!
