Hey Strava, thank you for creating this community.

There's so many athletes that also perform martial arts it'd be nice to be able to track those activities as part of Strava. From Kung Fu, Jujitsu, Taekwondo, Karate, MMA to Tai Chi and Qi Gong, there's so many sub types that could also be added under the type of sports (like what you did with Run - Race, Long Run, Workout).

It'd be real nice!

@drios - I've been thinking this for years! (kicks self for not suggesting already).  Once this is "gathering kudos", you'll get one from me (after I recover from kicking myself... it was a roundhouse kick)

I’d really love to track my Muay Thai activities better than just “cardio.” I think “martial arts” can encompass so many different disciplines and will give a better idea since each session is a mixture of hit, cardio, strength, conditioning and tabata.

Can't believe this only has 2 kudos!!

It should be much more popular!

And at least there should be distinction between MMA, grappling, kickboxing, boxing. Those 4 are fine for beginning.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Strava user here. Would like to see this (or the more generic term Martial Art) added as a sport.

How do you measure bjj? I train it too, but it does not allow to wear a watch.

Switch to Whoop. They have Muay Thai, BJJ, boxing, wrestling and other similar activities.
I think there’s an obvious bias against any type of combat sports down at Strava HQ. They clearly have no interest in attracting that demographic.

I mean, look at some of the other ridiculous activities Strava has.  They add those before combat sports; which are arguably more challenging than any other sport on the Strava app??  It’s gotta be intentionally omitted.

@ModernNerd  I use a Polar H10 chest strap which works brilliantly beneath a rashguard and gi.

@Stormshadow yeah whoop sounds good. I’m too invested in strava to make the switch but accept that you’re probably right, they’ve no interest in adding combat sports to the mix.

I agree. It would be awesome to have popular specifics eg BJJ, MMA & boxing but at the very least a general "martial arts" category.

Just Martial Arts to be added for now is enough. Later this can be improved but now we need at least one category of this kind of sporting

I've added all my BJJ sessions as the generic "Workout" option. I also wear a Myzone chest strap HRM under the rashie or just use the 'how did that activity feel' meter which is usually close to the max.

It is very weird that Strava has obscure sports over a very common excercise activity like Martial Arts. It does come off ideological, I mean if you were to objectively look at statistical breakdown of what are popular excercise activities across demographics. Maybe employ data scientists over activists.... Go woke go broke.

I might be entirely off point here but it is weird.

I do the same - HRM under rashguard and record it under "workout" but it's more faffing than I'd rather because then it just get's recorded as "workout" too. Anyway, fingers crossed. May take a look at competitors.
