Hi,

I'm looking for a way to have these statistics included with my runs on strava.

I use strava to record my running and view statistics which is great.

First I started using the strava Apple Watch app but it didn't include these extra statistics. I know for example Garmin watches can sync these data to strava running activities, but don't want to buy a new watch and wondered if this is also possible with my Apple Watch. I found out that the workout app on iOS 16.1 and Apple Watch 9.1 includes this data, but not all data is synced to strava .

Is this already on the roadmap or hopefully a good idea to add :)?

Kind regards

Martijn

UPDATE FROM STRAVA (March 18, 2024)

Hello and thank you to everyone who has added their comments and feedback to this topic.

First, we want to say that we appreciate you all reaching out on this matter and sharing your thoughts. We absolutely understand the value of having as much of your activity data on Strava as possible, and how many of our athletes use an Apple Watch to record that data. We do want to let you know that we are committed to improving both the Strava Watch app experience and the integration we have with the Apple Workout app (Healthkit).

Our team is pushing forward to streamline and improve the user experience with the Strava watch app, making recording and syncing activities easier for athletes. We are also investigating how best to bring over more data from Healthkit to Strava, particularly with the releases of watchOS 9 and watchOS 10.

We will continue to work towards these goals and monitor this thread. Please be on the lookout for improvements to the Apple Watch experience in the coming year.

Few things I’d like to say.
it is obvious that Strava doesn’t have the interest to integrate with Apple Watch, otherwise a good coder can fix  this issue in a day and half of work, so the case are 2 , or they don’t have good coders or they don’t have the desire to fix that seems to be a deliberate choice.
as I now train more seriously I have stopped using Strava because it not nearly as good as other platforms to be used as a serious training app.
If you are serious athletes I’d invite going somewhere else like I have done long time ago.
I originally kept using Strava as an hub to connect with friends and to exchange data across platform, but even for these aspect there are alternatives.

end of the story… Strava is run by a cluster of clowns

@Truespin does it? What version number is that please?

Version 371.0.0 which became available today for me in the UK

After updating the app there was an option to include running power from apple health into Strava.

One ‘bug’ fixed, now on to fix the missing Cycle metrics!

@Damo thank you, I didn't see a prompt but when I checked, the option was there, waiting to be enabled, yay. Will try it with my today's run! - BUT, the remaining metrics really need to be added too, come on Strava!

Sadly cycle ingest will probably never come. Same as connecting power meters to strava.

As strava ingests a lot of data from garmin/wahoo connections(and remember, data=money), they probably have a deal with them never developing those connections themselves removing the need for a garmin head unit.

Exactly. Strava clearly has an agreement with other manufacturers. There is no technical reason at all why cycling cadence and power can’t be imported. In fact, using third party tracking apps on the Apple Watch, you can bring these metrics into Strava, but why should we need to do that.

Note that this thread appears to cover two different things which are ultimately the same end result.

  • Strava apps not logging specific metrics.
  • Strava not importing specific metrics from Apple Fitness.

It’s already possible for Strava to ingest cycle metrics recorded on the native workout app on the Apple Watch by having HealthFit send the activity to Strava rather than have Apple Health do it natively.

Strava has resolved the ‘bug’ of no advanced running metrics i.e. missing power, so I’m would like to think cycling is next.

Awesome - Thanks Damo. I can confirm that HealthFit does indeed work to sit between Apple Fitness and Strava while passing through all metrics including cycling power and cadence.

Hmmm, so even though I've allowed Strava to access the Running Power data from Health before today's training, none of my new runs imported to Strava includes power data. 😐

Another vote to add this data from Apple import.

This is spot on.

Garmin & Wahoo are literally $hit scared that people don’t need their tiny head units , there must be some kickbacks to Strava execs .. any programmer who captures VOC, voices of customer, has heard us the community.  Yet not done.

Ever since the “new” update with the Strava’s ability to read “running power” from Apple Health, I’ve been on two 10K runs and nada.

I don’t see power data on the Strava upload.

Hi @Jane ,

I have the same problem as @VarunParth . I have given Strava permission to read power data but it’s showing up after a run. Can we now consider this a bug?

I really hope this isn't the case. In the end they are different markets. People who use a phone for their cycling can already do that including using Strava's own app.

If Strava intends to create an artificial need for people to use their own app or to use preferred partners and pick a fight with Apple, it won't go well. They will open up the market for a new platform and A LOT of people use Apple devices and Apple Watches.

I really hope it isn't the case that these updates are being deliberately shelved, but the fact it's been well over 2.5 years since they had the information about what is a simple update - and it's still not done - says there is more to it.

@VarunParth  exactly the same here. I've even completely uninstalled and reinstalled the app. Still the same - no power data... 😕
