I went hiking the day before my flight and forgot to finish the activity session. Consequently, strava recorded the 12,000 km flight as part of the activity.
My issue is that now, whenever I go to that activity to close it, strava crashes. This means that I cannot record new sessions. 😞
Thanks for your post. It sounds like that recording file has become too large for the App. Strava is not designed to record air travel trips. If you haven't already resolved this, I would recommend rebooting your phone. The recording in progress will be lost, but you should then be able to use Strava again.

I had this issue with an activity that I started recording 1,200 hours ago and 11,000 km away. I never noticed as I rarely go into Record tab unless my watch battery dies.
I couldn't cancel the recording as going into the Record tab of the app would resume the activity automatically and crash everything. Then on reboot the problem comes back.
Rebooting device didn't help.
On Android to solve effectively need to wipe the app data clean:
Log out
Close the app
In settings > apps > Strava, delete cache and data (I had 1.1gb at that point, not sure if normal).
Relaunch app and login again, your buggy activity will be lost and you can start a new one again.
