Best practices - apps & devices

tomtailford

I use Strava and have a Google phone and Strava doesn't sync to Google Fit. (I've disconnected accounts, revoked/granted permissions, cleared cache & storage and gone through a few other steps as guided on various websites.)

I've just purchased a Samsung Galaxy watch to add to the confusion. Is there a best practice to connecting various devices/apps to get them all firing together?

Device 1: Google Pixel 5 Phone
Strava App
Google Fit App
Health Connect App (Google)
Health App (Samsung)
Galaxy Wear App

Device 2: Samsung Galaxy 5 Watch
Strava App installed (& linked to account)

THANKS!

Hello @tomtailford

Thanks for posting about this.  You can use either your Android phone to record, or you can use the Strava App on your Galaxy 5 Watch (using Wear OS)

Many Athletes prefer to run without a phone strapped to their arm and the watch is useful for that.  The watch can also record your heart rate data without connecting an additional sensor.  On the other hand, some Athletes will use the phone App since there are features available with the phone App that you can't use when recording with the watch.  Live segments are an example of a feature that can be used on the phone but not the watch.

If you are having difficulties with activities syncing from Strava to Google fit there are a few things you can try:

  1. First, open your Strava app on your mobile device and go to the "You" Feed. Scroll through your recent activities to make sure they are loaded and displayed on your feed.
  2. Then, open your Google Fit app on your mobile device and go to the Journal tab. On the Journal tab tap on the refresh button in the top right corner. It may take a few moments for the activities to appear on the Google Fit history.

If you find that your activity has not synced to Google Fit after using the steps above, it will be necessary to edit the activity on Strava in order to trigger the sync action. Once you save the activity again it should push over to Google Fit.
