PR not recognized

I ran a PR in the Half Marathon yesterday but it’s not showing as such. Has anyone had this issue and if so, how is it resolved?

Hey @Bob_Barber,
Thanks for your post. We're going to send this over to our Support team so they can take a look at your account and see what's going on. If you have a similar question please submit a support ticket and we will investigate further.

UPDATE FROM SUPPORT:  There was an earlier activity that had a better time than the activity in question. Therefore the earlier activity was awarded the PR.

Is the GPS-recorded distance at least 21.11 km?

Sports watches usually round 21.095 and above up to 21.10, whereas Strava rounds anything between 21.09000... and 21.09999... down to 21.09. If your watch says 21.10, it may have measured up to 2.5 m less than the official half marathon distance of 21.0975 km (and a lot less or more depending on GPS error). The only way to make sure Strava calls it a half marathon is to keep running 'till your device says 21.11 km.

I have the same issue, ran 21.11km on my device, Strava even recognises as a half marathon as it completed the May 2024 Half Marathon Challenge, so unless they have different metrics for the PR, I am a bit perplexed. Please can you help Strava? Editing the distance just makes the times and distance wrong.

Hey @jdlv
Thanks for your post. We use the official half marathon distance of 21097.5 meters as our benchmark.  If the activity file you upload has at least that amount in the recorded distance stream, then the Challenge completion would be automatically triggered. 21097.5 meters converts to: 13.10937873 miles.

For an activity where the distance stream is less than 21097.5 meters, 21090.5 for example, that converts to: 13.10502 miles which will also show as 13.11 miles, even though the underlying distance stream is slightly less. In that instance, the Challenge completion would not be triggered.

When looking to complete a distance Challenge, or personal record, we always recommend going a bit extra so you can be sure you've completed the full distance.

In some situations you can change the distance that is shown for your activity. Changing the distance stream may also update the pace or duration of an activity. If your device created a distance stream using sensors such as a speed sensor, pedometer, or accelerometer, you can switch your distance on Strava to use GPS data rather than the generated distance stream.

To swap your distance stream:

  • Go to your activity page on the website (this feature is currently not accessible in our mobile apps)
  • From the activity page click on (◦◦◦) the more options menu > Correct Distance.
  • From the pop-up, click "Correct Distance".
  • When the status changes from "Calculating" to "Updated," refresh the page.

To revert the change, you can click the same link and click "Revert Distance".

If you would like our team to take a closer look at your activity, you can submit a support ticket and we will investigate further.
