[Archived] Athlete Community

This is of course what every software engineer writes as a first program in any language and as I used to be one it seems appropriate here too.  I’m new to the Community so this is hello from a 60+ cycling MAMIL 🤣🚴🏻😎

The ability to extract part of an activity, rather than a full split, would be useful. My use case is I hiked around a lake, and had a swim half way through. I wanted to save the entire Hike as one activity, with the Swim as another. This is currently achievable, but it's long - split the activity, crop the middle activity, download all 3 files, use a text editor to piece gpx files 1 & 3 together, delete all 3 activities, upload the 2 new gpx files.This could be made much easier by enhancing your current Activity Split tool.

The integration with Garmin is probably my most used, clocking in at 5-6 times per week, followed by the Concept2 ERGdata app. One commonality I've noticed is that STRAVA will shave a very small amount of distance off a recorded run or row, but more frequently on runs, and it's not much - less than a tenth of a mile.  But it's so prevalent that the folks in my run clubs have just defaulted to "rounding up for STRAVA".  It's quite an agonizing thing to race a half marathon, stop at 13.1 miles on the nose, only to have STRAVA record it as 13.09.

For a long time it has felt that KOM's are past their sell by date, particularly when group rides and pro riders are all taken as equal. The segment legends  helped show another way but it feels more can be done. As an educator i'm always interested in rewarding improvement rather than clumsy top marks. Strava should trial other  grading criteria related to improvement - e.g best percentage improvement this month on a segment, consistency ratings/ improvements, increase in weekly distance, improvement in longest ride etc. So not absolute numbers but rather % improvement. The data exists, so use it more inclusively. 

Can't edit/move a waypoint on Strava desktop.OK, I'm trying to move a waypoint to a different road. Well, not a waypoint per se, it's just a route, there are no waypoints at this point. If i click and drag on the route, it updates to the new route -  but then as soon as I release, it jumps back to what it was ... though now with a new waypoint where I grabbed it.Not the only one reporting this. (On a Macbook Pro, regardless of the browser.)

Just attempted a rather difficult Tour des Stations Ultrafondo event (242KM/8848M). Missed the second time check by 7 minutes and got elimihated. Not alone, only 326 of 680 participants completed and only 7 of 21 in the 60+ age group.I trained and trained but still came up short. They really shouldn't label it a 'Fondo' event as it's really more a race. The time checks are the same for everyone, regardless of age. I wish there were age specific time checks.No more whining. I'm wondering if anyone knows good training material (video ideally) for long endurance events. If I ever hope to compete I will have to fight my age and up my game. 

Hey everyone, I'm Eric from Colorado. I've been using Strava since 2013 and it has been an integral part of my athletic life. These are the areas where I feel I've benefited the most...1) Motivation. This tool has been a huge motivator in my training. Keeping track of PRs, chasing KOMs, improving on previous attempts. Segments motivate me a whole lot more than doing "intervals".2) Inspiration. I've found great ideas of places to ride, run, and activities to try by seeing what other people are doing. I can go anywhere in the world and find cool places instantly, or find places in my own area that I didn't know about. 3) Creative outlet. In addition to being a training log where I can write and journal about my daily activities, I enjoy posting pictures from those activities. As an artist that doesn't do art for a living, I often don't find much time for art. Strava gives me a platform to find and

Hi community. It'll be interesting to see how this develops in the coming months.It does seem strange that we have to have a new username and avatar. Why can't we just log into the community using our Strava profile?Will we eventually be able to add custom avatars? They usually stand out more, and you get to pick out people by their avatar rather than a name. I see some people already have them. Do we have to earn the ability or something?Custom signatures? Under segments compare there's the choice to see times and ranks against a filter of age, followers and the like and there's a today filter which is really useful for seeing how you and your buddies did on a section, however, it would be HUGELY useful if there was a filter by date option even if you could select a specific date going only back a few days. Ideally we could be able to select an unlimited date range for eg. The weekend of *>*The other thing I'd like to have is a 'time of day started' from a given point or segment start. Limited use cases I grant you but it can come in handy to determine how far you were behind a group and how much time you gained or lost by the end by looking at a segment at, or near the start and end of the group ride whilst ignoring an individual's ride to start and ride home. This is mainly for hare/hound kind of rides which are becoming increasingly popular here.

Hi,It'd be great if the route builder could show average percent grade for the current route.I can mainly see this being used for seeing the grades of hills when looking for areas to run hills on and trying to find a certain grade of hill i.e. 3%, 4%, 5% etc.

When you view your lap times, it would be nice to have a column with the cumulative time of that split and perhaps some other stats would be good (eg cadence or avg HR for that split) 

Allow us to exclude activities from best efforts without needing to delete or trim the activity. Very useful if you get a GPS glitch midwayShow current year best efforts, most of us can't match let alone beat our younger self

Maybe this is in some article somewhere, but I can't find it...Kudos/Upvote? So, I see a lot of interesting ideas in the Feature Suggestion (under Help & Ideas), and I assume that giving a kudo is upvoting an idea.... What is somewhat perplexing though is that some cannot get a kudo and some can.  I thought (at first) that it had to have a status of "Gathering Kudos" in order to allow a kudo, but there are some with this status that also will not allow me to kudo (while others in this status can be given a kudo). Q:  What is the 'flow' to be able to kudo, and is this how we vote on features suggested by fellow Strava Athletes?  Thanks!TL;DR The message I got for one that is in 'Gathering Kudos' said "This idea cannot receive kudos", and the one that was 'New Idea' said "You cannot give kudos to a completed message"

 I’d love to know how the trail network map areas are created / generated and if they’re curated at all.The example in the screen capture shows a cluster of trails at “South Hills Preserve”, which everyone locally knows as “Hulda Crooks” because that’s the name of the park where the main parking lot is located. But as a trail network area on the Map, it appears to be labelled “TWH”, which is coincidentally actually the acronym of a group that meets there weekly for a run (a great group of awesome trail runners). But it’s not technically the name of the trail location, which could lead to some confusion?

So... I remember when Strava used to have a 'Suffer Score' (instead of Relative Effort), and I do know that the new mechanism (relative effort) is more accurate.  When this got changed, was there anything done to convert the existing 'Suffer Score' on activities to relative effort, or did the existing number remain, with only the label updated?When I go into my activities, and sort by relative effort, even though some numbers seem quite high, I'd say the ordering is still accurate - but I'd like to know if there is any issue with a 'scale' on some that predated the relative effort.
