Hello, I currently have an indoor trainer, but it gets quite boring. I am looking to voice chat with people during rides to keep each other motivated. I have tried zwift and I really like the platform, but I found many of the voice chatrooms empty.  Is anyone interested in connecting and chatting during rides?

Heya, I'm planning on buying a new bike. My intention is to go for a CX one-by. I'm also planning to use the bike as a roadbike in summer. Hence my qustion is: Does anybody know or have experiences in changing the charinring? 40 or 46 teeth are maybe not sufficient to ride with lads on tarmac. I'm planning to switch the chainrings in summer and fall to convert from "crosser" to "roadbike" and vice versa. Is this technically possible? Please don't try to warn me about different geometries. I've tried the different frames and in the end it's always the legs not the reach nor the stack which is your limiter. I'm not planning to compete in the Giro oder the Vuelta. Thank you in advance. Use this thread to introduce yourself and meet some new people. We'd love to hear more about who you are, what activities interest you and also importantly what your favorite cheese is 🧀?  Here's mine: Scotland born but now California based (the 😎 shines more here) I love hiking, running (sometimes) and also hoping to establish maze based walking/solving as an up and coming sport type, cause it's a real workout running round those things.  I love cheese. We recently hosted our first exclusive AMA (Ask Me Anything) session featuring one of Strava’s Senior Software Engineers. I'd like to say hello - as suggested when I first read about this hub. My name is Dustin, I'm located in western Europe and am sort of addicted to all kind of sporty activities. I mostly cycle, though. Three weeks ago I started running for the first time in my life and sort of like it. So I added swimming to my weekly routine and started to prepare training to compete in a triathlon next year. Gladly looking forward to discussions with you guys and gals.

Although not as old or iconic as the Boston Marathon, the New York City Marathon has grown to be the biggest marathon in the world with more than 53,000 Finishers in 2019.  The inaugural race, held in 1970, consisted of multiple laps around Manhattan’s Central Park. Hello Strava Administrator, and Strava Athletes Alike,Am I missing the obvious, or has the following topic been overlooked?  Strava awards accomplishments like KOM/QOM, and cups for Top 10 over segments.  Kudos!  But what about some new type of recognition for age-group leaders?  In virtually any real-life race or competition, age-group winners are also recognized in addition to the overall winners.  It seems like a no-brainer that Strava should do the same.  I know that subscribers get the age-group listing also, but a person has to look that up.  Why not award a virtual trophy of some kind as soon as the ride is uploaded to Strava so followers can see and acknowledge that accomplishment the same way it's done for KOM/QOM and Top 10?  People who get out there, and get out there and challenge themselves as they enter the upper age-groups should be recognized for that.  This seems too obvious to be overlooked by Strava.  Am I m

Normally when you think about a task or goal while you're performing it, time feels like you are moving in slow motion. I can't speak for everyone, but when I think about the daunting hill I have to run up just to get back home, it feels like my legs have weights attached to them. To conquer that mindset I know I have to get into a zone. You know the zone right? That feeling you get when you are pretty much on autopilot. Your body and mind are in sync and the thought of stopping doesn't exist. Some people need complete silence while others need their favorite song on their playlist to come on in order to get into a zone. I personally listen to audiobooks to occupy my mind while my body moves on its own. What about you? What method do you use to get into the zone while you're active?

Just joined the Strava campfire chat community, have been using Strava since 2019. I am a road cyclist from the US that lives in Nepal where the mountain bike is king haha.Since cycling is a developing sport here, Strava gives a great opportunity to compare times and help get the word out about cycling and all its benefits here. Thanks!Caleb Hubbard

Let’s admit it, we don’t always feel like getting up to exercise. Whether it’s cold outside or we’re tired from the previous day, it’s challenging to get moving when we don’t really want to. Yet we dig deep and find ourselves outside (or in the gym) sweating. For me personally, whenever I don’t feel like exercising I think about how there’s someone out there getting better while I’m not. That’s enough for me to get up and get moving!💪 What about you? What keeps you motivated to be active and exercise even on the days you don’t want to?

Hello and welcome to this week’s edition of Tuesday Chat with Team Strava!   Let’s start by harkening back to 2009, the year Strava was founded.  At the very beginning, we supported one activity type, (cycling), and one device type (Garmin).  If you were a cyclist with a Garmin cycling computer, you could use Strava. With the London marathon just finished at the beginning of October, I came across this article on the Runner’s World website which states that Strava Athletes who run the London Marathon in 2021 were faster on average than the rest of the runners participating in the marathon.   ‘’The average Strava uploader completed the 2021 London Marathon in 4:19:54, just under three minutes quicker than average time for the race as a whole – 4:22:50.’’   Seems like more than half of the total runners (80k) were on Strava, and the article goes into detail on the average time for men and women. I found this information quite interesting and I wonder if a similar logic is applied to other sports types - especially

Who invented Segments? 🤔 🤔 Long before Strava existed, cyclists were talking about their fastest times up iconic climbs. We all know “if it’s not on Strava, it didn’t happen”, so how did segments originate? They were invented by one of Strava’s co-founders, Davis Kitchel, inspired by a Wednesday night group ride in the late 90s. “There were notable, locally named climbs with well understood start and finish lines during which the ride turned into a race to the top with the prize being stature and bragging rights. Not everybody could make it to each Wednesday ride, which often led to comments with no proof like ‘Oh, I rode that climb last week and was at least 30 seconds faster than we rode today.’” With nothing to back these claims and verify them, Davis, a software engineer, set out to obtain better data and keep track of efforts.

The idea of Strava was first conceived of in the mid 1990s, by our co-founders Michael Horvath and Mark Gainey, but it wasn’t until 2009 that they officially founded Strava as a website for cyclists to map their rides. We’ve come a long way since then, and now support many activity types including running, walking, team sports and indoor workouts. It’s always fun to look back on our roots and reminisce about “way back when”.
