Probably most active segment adders know that: you want best, but accidents just happen. Your segment has bad GPS data, you've accidentally made a shortcut through the meadow, your pipi sidewalk was added, or the path was changed since then, or anything else

So you've spammed the system with a segment that nobody except of you is going to make. Congrats on your King/Queen, but it's not the idea of the segments.

If nobody except the initial registrar has made the segment in 1 or 2 years, it's most likely a junk, and definitely not an added value to the community. What about cleanup procedure for segments that were never, or are no longer attempted?

I agree, I honestly find some satisfaction in performing the grunt work of scrubbing segments for bad start&finish points and deleting duplicates. You have a great point in that it's a bummer to take on a segment for which legacy users rode a different path and the rest of us currently have a long way around. That would be an awesome upgrade in that you could flag a year that legacy KOMs may be honored but not full-standing on the leaderboard. We have a handful of those in Albuquerque where the city supported cyclists with underpasses or the old decent down the mountain has been washed out so any recent attempt is more of double black than a blue line. But I'll go back to wishing I could simply have bad segments edited or deleted.

for example: https://www.strava.com/segments/1618225

start of segment only captures southbound entry + duplicate segment to:
https://www.strava.com/segments/12760973

OR worse:

https://www.strava.com/segments/4329462

in order to tackle this segment you have to start your ride in the parking lot by a porta-potty. where ~100(?) feet Southwest the multiuse main trail where 99% of the segment is rode upon is. It's be wonderful just to move the start so that it's easier to tackle without diverting into a parking lot. I mean I don't want to flag it because how unsafe it is riding in a parking lot... but... This is another one of those "it might be worth a scrub" moments.
