Send heart rate, power, cadence & GPS to Apple Health

Truespin

There’s some useful data that Apple Health now supports, but that Strava doesn’t upload:

  • Heart rate
  • Power
  • Cadence
  • GPS route/map

Is there a feature request open to get these fields added to the Apple Health upload from Strava rides?

Also, is the opposite planned? To import the power & cadence from my Apple Watch cycling workouts (now that watchOS 10 supports power & cadence) when I add these to Strava.

Hey @Truespin
Thanks for your post. We do have these ideas suggested on our Ideas Board and you can show your support by clicking on the kudos button and adding feedback:
Write heart rate to Apple Health
Apple Watch - add stats: power, cadence, vertical oscillation, ground contact, step length, strokes

I guess these answers are not satisfactory enough. I like strava app but I don't understand why I can't see the cadence data in Strava while recording my runs with Apple watch. Is it some sort of compatibility of data issue ?

Or the reliability of cadence calculation on Apple Health is not good enough?

This request is about writing data to Apple, not pulling data from Apple.

@ucentel I believe your request to pull data from Apple Watch is the same as the one in this idea post: https://communityhub.strava.com/t5/ideas/apple-watch-add-stats-power-cadence-vertical-oscillation-gr...

@Scout this is a different request / Idea than the two posts you link in your reply.

AFAIK, the first one you linked is resolved, and the second seems to have started with a request to pull data from Apple Watch, not write data to Apple Health / Apple Fitness.

This request is exactly what I would love to see which is writing additional data fields (collected by Strava or imported by Strava from third party connections like Garmin) back to Health Kit.

Right now the Strava write to Apple Health only includes heart rate, distance, average speed, and calories.

Data fields that should be written include:

  • Elevation (data stream not avg)
  • Speed (data stream not avg)
  • Cadence (data stream not avg)
  • Power (data stream not avg)
  • GPS track

The 4iiii app (and qz now) can write all of those fields, however, Garmin Connect, Strava, and Echelon have not updated their HealthKit integrations to write this data -- those additional fields have been in production versions of iOS/watchOS on the Apple side for over a year.

Have these ideas been approved for implementation? If so, what is the timeframe to be implemented? If not, what is necessary to move this up in priority? Thank-you!

Hey @pdagnew
Thanks for your post. We generally cannot speak to the direction of the product, nor discuss product or policy decisions or opinions. We do appreciate your input though -- our product, research and marketing teams look at all idea suggestions to take into consideration for roadmap planning.

That being said, looking at these ideas, I do see one is 'gathering kudos' and one is 'under consideration'. To find out more about how we manage the ideas section, please refer to our Community Guide to Ideas article.

Thank you once again!
